Tyler & Nathan win The Amazing Race Australia

Surfers Tyler & Nathan are the inaugural winners of The Amazing Race Australia, winning $250,000 cash.

Surfers Tyler & Nathan have won The Amazing Race Australia.

The pair take home $250,000 as inaugural champions in the Reality series hosted by Grant Bowler.

Second place went to Models Sam & Renae.

Father and Son team Jeff & Luke took third.

The 90 minute episode saw contestants race from Sri Lanka to Singapore and finally to Perth.

Jeff & Luke, Tyler & Nathan were both on the final flight to Perth, but Sam & Renae had to board a flight 30 minutes later.

But the WA girls had a home-town advantage, knowing the fastest roads to get around local tourist spots including King’s Park and Fremantle Prison.

The final challenge required contestants to arrange flags from their destinations in chronological order on a beach at Cape Peron. It put all three teams on the same page in a three-way battle against the clock.

The final pitstop saw Bowler awaiting the first team at Heirisson Island. Tyler and Nathan headed back to Perth, but local girls Sam & Renae in hot pursuit knew the local terrain.

The Australian adaptation of the Reality series has been well-received by fans of The Amazing Race with plenty of interest in some of its contestants including Tracy and Anne-Marie, Joey and Richard and Anastasia and Chris.

Seven is already calling for entrants for a second season.

  1. Well, at least now we finally know why Tyler & Nathan were edited as blandly and inoffensively as possible. I swear for the entire first half of the season they were only there for exposition.

  2. Well what a surprise – a bunch of Guys won. Wouldn’t it have been a true surprise if Women had won. But that will probably happen the Next series.

  3. what a joke this race.

Isn’t a race around the world, you start and finish at the same place!?!

So how can they call this a race around the world!?!

    what a farcical

  4. I am Not happy with ch 7 for making it start so late! Here in WA it didn’t start til 9.30 because of that stupid. boring airport show.

I really want the girls to win. 🙁

  5. @Brad – have you seen any WCE games??? Nico is far from B grade!!!

Wonder why the producers called it ‘Cape’ Peron – it is Point Peron…………

  6. Nathan & Tyler….The 2 coolest Dudes won!!!!!!! Yeaiiii!!!!! Could not be more happier with the result… and they well deserved to win! I cud watch the show just for them!!! After watchign the US versions till now, I was not too sure how the Aus version would be.. but it was equaly good… though i did not quite like.. leaving thigns to luck in the grand finale…

  7. It’s good to see white, middle-class, good-looking Australian men finally get the recognition they deserve. We’ve been fighting this battle for too long.

  8. Re the connections and models comments: you are right. Nathan and Tyler are not average surfers – they’re D list Aussie celebrities and have been for years. They both had thousands of twitter followers before the show even began airing, Tyler has dated Paris Hilton, Nathan is with Erin McNaught. Nathan is also the male face of David Jones and has been their main model for at least a year. Both have been in countless advertising campaigns, Tyler was even on the cover of Vogue years ago. They’re both been with agencies for years.

Just as with Survivor, the producers probably went through casting agencies and casted through connections, along with throwing in a few normal people such as the Big W ladies. The surfers are more “models” than the actual models Sam and Renae. I feel as though from articles I’ve read today, that the public is being manipulated into believing these are just ordinary guys who won a reality show. Not true. Their agents would have put them there, it’s a career move, nothing more.

  9. David,

Why did Channel 7 put the finale on at 9:00pm, surely even starting it at 8:30pm would have helped ratings and not competing against Masterchef?

  10. @Brad not at all. Just find it interesting that these people are portrayed as being ‘random everyday aussies’ when their connections would suggest otherwise.

If I had auditioned for the program (which I didn’t and don’t intend to) I think I’d feel as though there was something dodgy going on for those who have the connections listed above.

  11. I was reading the comments from bottom to top and was thrilled to see that no one had complained about the published results i.e. how it had ‘ruined’ it for them.

I thought David might just get through this without any one ‘whinging’…Then I got to the 8.36am post… (Note: I have not watched the final episode as yet, and I do love a spoiler, hence not afraid to come visit knowing that the results will be published 🙂 )

I was hoping the girls would win.

  12. So let’s just have a look at the casts connections…

Sam and Renae- Both dated (ing) WCE footy player Mark Nickoski
Tyler and Nathan- Nathan dating Erin McNaught
Ryot and Liberty- Brother and sister of Rebel Wilson.

Do you need to know someone in the industry to have any chance at getting in?

  13. Stupid Lara Bingle spoiled the outcome several weeks ago (google for the articles), but I did keep watching just in case it was wrong.
Wonder how the father and son would have gone if they had a better sense of direction?

  14. Well done to the producers of The Amazing Race Australia….great cast, great host, great production values…

Anyone complaining about the editing of the final race to the mat, you have never seen The Amazing Race obviously. This is common editing practice with the show. Often you think it is very close and it’s not.

@Butters: who said the girls arrived ‘late at night’? It looked like just on dusk to me…

@Andrew_81 : Sam and Renae obviously didn’t ‘get’ the flags straight after Tyler and Nathan…this is called editing to make it more exciting…

  15. This was as good as the US series. They’ve got plenty of time to fix up any problems they had with this series and make it even better for the second one. This is one reality show that can’t be rigged – it is all down to luck and how well you perform the tasks along the way.

The editing on all legs in The Amazing Race is always done to make it look like a close finish in order to keep the viewers guessing as to who comes in first. If you are regular viewer of the show (in any of its formats) you would know this. Also I’ve never seen the Asian version, so most of the tasks were new to me.

  16. Great final challenges to even out the teams, but I reckon the two winners are moronic dropkicks without a hint of personality (or masculinity) between them. You’d have thought all the teams would have watched past series of Amazing Race US to see that the flags thing is a likely final challenge!
    Looking forward to Season 2…

  17. I’m sure Seven will fast track season 19 of the US Amazing Race, which begins in the US on September 25. Interesting to see if it will be shown on the main seven channel or on 7mate like the season 18 was.

  18. those surfer guys were so irritating to watch.. “go dude”, “yeah dude”, “go for it dude”

would have loved to have seen the girls win, they did really well!

Next season they need to implement a more even set of challenges – Sam and Renae only got the leg up on the final leg by being able to sew in the last challenge of the previous round, yet they had to complete many tasks through out the boys could do easily (like heavy lifting/chopping etc).

wonder which one/s will be on dancing with the stars next season! 😛
