Nine’s recycle theory on Big Bang

Big Bang Theory overtakes Two and a Half Men as Nine's most recycled comedy this year.

As of yesterday The Big Bang Theory had overtaken Two and a Half Men as Nine’s most recycled comedy this year.

The Chuck Lorre sitcom has played 341 episodes across Nine and GO! with 339 of the other Chuck Lorre sitcom.

Might have to start calling it The Big Bang for your Buck.

  1. 2.5 men is a classic . I dont care what anyone says. I am not the lowest common denominator and i love it . It is actually extremely well written and well acted.

  2. I wonder how many of the same episodes were also recycled during the year with numbers, would be interesting as they would be all out of order!

I wonder what Top Gear is in numbers. Part of the reason why now. I don’t watch it anymore. Once something gets oversatured, I stop watching it!

  3. Mmmmm. What a surprise. I thought it had overtaken 2.5 men ages ago. That explains why I don’t watch much on Nine anymore. Survivor & Fringe are about the only things and I have to suffer the other end of Nine programming: different day, different time and long breaks between episodes. On a plus note they did show Bledisloe 2 live on Gem in Adelaide, so it’s not all bad.

  4. They need to put sale of the century back on at 7pm
    Here’s an idea
Sale of the century 7pm, and when the black 2012 returns, sale goes into temporary hiatus until the blocks finished

  5. @Ryaneco – “…but why the hell are 700k odd people still watching 7pm repeats?”
C’mon Ryan, surely not all of those 700k are “odd”? Some of them have prob just lost the remote.

  6. Well done Big Bang Theory for becoming the most overplayed show on Australian television. For a show that started on 9 in December 2007 to poor ratings and lasted 4 episodes until November 2008 when it was brought back on a weekly basis doing worse than a 2 1/2 Men repeat. It played over that summer then mid 2009 it came back on a regular basis catching up to season 3 by the end of the year. Adelaide missed out on half a dozen episodes which became first run on GO with there little Sunday night marathon playing out many episodes. Since then Big Bang has dominated channel 9 and Go. Rather it be on many times than not at all like it was throughout most of 2008.

In a few years expect 350+ episodes of Mike and Molly and/or The Middle to dominate.

  7. I also quite like the show – but there comes a time when excessive repeating so damages a brand that it soils other programs around it. Lazy and cheap programming. There are lots of viewers out there and many ways to attract them but this is not it.

  8. Luv the picture used! I am a late comer to this show – having resisted it for three years. I am enjoying it – although it will never be the classic standard of a Seinfeld or Frasier, even if it lasts that long. But in Sheldon Cooper they have created an iconic character, and Parsons’ relish of his role. They are a great ensemble.

  9. Few people seem to remember that Nein used to bury this show at 11pm at night, or later, because they didn’t think it would rate.

What drugs are they on in the Nein programming department?

  10. 341 showings of The Big Bang Theory! There’s only been 87 episodes made so far! That’s an average of nearly 4 showings per episode in 8 months! On average each episode is shown again every 2 months!!
None of this is surprising really…

  11. Absolutely ridiculous. What a joke of a programming department.

You would never see this contempt for the viewer in the States or UK or even NZ.

Nines networks need massive relaunch and new programmers ASAP.

  12. By my calculations that means they’ve played the entire series almost four times over this year alone. Also there’s countless repeats on The Comedy Channel and in some cases it has aired on GO! and The Comedy Channel at the same time.

  13. I love TBBT, actually been watching some of the re-runs on Nine and GO! I just hope Nine doesn’t kill it with over exposure before the new season.

BTW it starts on CBS Sept 22, any chance Nine will fast track it the following Monday, Sept 26?

  14. Jesus! It’s only aired a total of 87 episodes which means each episode has been played 4 times almost! And that is just this year!
I got nothing against big bang I actually like the show and have the DVDs (I actually haven’t seen much of season 4 because of nines treatment of it, am waiting for DVD) but why the hell are 700k odd people still watching 7pm repeats?!?!?
