Does anybody remember Tony Barber hosting an Aussie version on TEN?

what is a dumb decision by one?
isn’t Tony Barber still on TV1 on Foxtel or something?
Jad: It’s said the main reason that the Tony Barber-hosted Jeopardy failed was its timeslot: 6pm weeknights, against Nine and Seven’s evening news services.
was asked to be on jepardy (with tony barber) when i was 14.. my mum said no 🙁
@Secret Squïrrel: Love the joke!
I remember the Tony Barber version, wish they would make another Australian version, but I think we are only stuck with dumb people shows like Deal or No Deal which has a pre-requisite of being a complete idiot with no self respect to get on it.
Always reminds me of this meme I keep seeing on Tumblr

Finally an alternative to news.
Hurray !
Awesome, Hot Seat at 5:30 then this at 6! Super fun game show hour!
….Lachlan Murdoch, do not let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
This is the death nail for ONE.
About time.if it works Ten might need it at 6.00 pm over summer to build up for 2012.
That’s awesome news. I’ve been wanting to see Jeopardy for along time and I don’t have W channel on Foxtel, hopefully ONE will be showing episodes from the current season too.
Love Jeopardy and me and my mum often lament about there not being an Aussie version because some of the categories are impossibly Ameri-centric. Too young to remember the Tony Barber version but was there any particular reasons it failed?
A game show back at this time & it’s Jeopardy? I’m there.
Woody: agreed. I don’t think that Sean Connery will be making an appearance.
My favourite Jeopardy answer of all time is: cockrobin.
The question is “What is that pressing into my back, Batman?” 😉
I remember the Tony Barber version, specifically being disappointed that i couldn’t go to an audience taping of it due to being under age :(. Much love for Jeopardy, has been a regular show to watch over the years, particularly in the lull of no Sale of the Century / Temptation.
I saw this in the advanced guides and I wasn’t sure if it was the game show Jeopardy! or that kids/teenagers show that used to air on ABC.
I certainly remember the Tony Barber version. I was the only one who wanted to watch it which resulted in shouting matches with my sister. I finally saved up enough money to buy my own portable TV and it went off air. Now I have a husband to deal with but thank goodness for technology and my PVR.
@SP – I remember that sketch too! Absolute gold from the D-Gen!
Yep, I’m old enough to remember the Tony Barber version. Hell, I’m old enough to remember the Andrew Harwood version!
Excellent!!! Jeopardy is the best quiz show ever and Alex Trebeck is a fantastic host. I watch it on W occasionally and absolutely love it.
“Does anybody remember Tony Barber hosting an Aussie version on TEN?”
Yes I definitely do.
Will the episodes be more up to date than the ones currently being shown on Foxtel which are from June 2010?
I have wanted to see this on fta for a long time!! Brilliant news!!
Oh and if anyone says “I don’t get it” just give it time. It’s one of America’s longest running game shows for a good reason.
I remember the Tony Barber version – it never felt the same after he left Sale of the Century. I remember a sketch The Late Show did with Tony giving Jane Kennedy (who was a contestant on celebrity Sale of the Century) advice over an earpiece, but wearing a Channel Ten hat, which made it all the more amusing 🙂
I wish it was the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy.
