No surprises to hear that period drama Boardwalk Empire has been renewed for a third season.
The much-lauded HBO drama premiered to 2.9 million viewers for its second season and picked up eight Emmys, including outstanding directing for a drama for Martin Scorsese. It has previously picked up a Golden Globe award for best drama and best actor for Steve Buscemi, as well as Screen Actors Guild Awards for its ensemble cast and for Buscemi.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said, “Following a triumphant first season, I was eager to see what Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their stellar team had in store, and they continue to surpass our highest expectations.
“The response from the media and our viewers has been extremely gratifying.”
Season Two will premiere in Australia next month on Showcase and the first season is expected on SBS in the second half of 2012.
