Thursday drama slapdown

PVRs at the ready. Next Thursday is an impossible choice with no less than 6 dramas here to tempt you.

Now hear this. Next Thursday is looming as one of the best nights for TV drama this year.

There are several choices vying for your attention and it will surely require some major planning by viewers and have PVRs running in overdrive.

Take a look at these:

8:30pm. ABC1: The Slap premiere. The pick of the night.
8:30pm TEN: Rush. Best episode this year. Must-see for loyal fans.
8:30pm Nine: Unforgettable premiere. Poppy Montgomery stars in new US crime drama. A bit routine but will appeal to fans of The Mentalist.
9:30pm ABC: Crownies. I’ve yet to watch this episode.
10pm SBS: Big Love. Premiere of the fifth and final season. Terrific episode with guest cast Gregory Itzin and Grant Show.

Plus 8:30pm Showcase: True Blood. I’ve yet to watch this episode too.

Oh and did I mention the double episode premiere of The Amazing Race at 9:30pm on Seven?

Aye carumba!

  1. And of course at the same time we shouldn’t forget:
    Luther (UKTV)
The Real Housewives of New Jersey (Arena)
    Jerseylicious (Style)
    Steven Seagal: Lawman (Ci)
Come Dine with Me – Bristol (Bio)

    The list is endless!

Was hoping for a repeat of “Man About the House’ but you can’t have everything on a single night.

  2. @Michael – I agree that Network Ten could choose to play any of those programs on their HD channel – One – where they wouldn’t rate along with most of the other progs on there. My point was that you appeared to be saying that H5O and Terra Nova are/will be in HD. I’m not aware of them being on One so I was querying what you meant by that statement.

  3. Recording:
    SGU/StarTrek
    Rush
    Unforgettable
    Law & Order
    Chase
    Off The Map

Will be watching Big Love and Lockdown on 7Mate. I have access to a twin tuner PVR and a set top box attached to a VCR so I can record 3 channels and watch a 4th on the TV 🙂 We don’t have Foxtel so no True Blood unfortunately. Might check out The Slap on iView.

  4. @ Moanique. B&Geek isn’t rating as well. You may be right, but we shall see.
It is a shame there is so much on at once. Aussie drama suffers ultimately if networks don’t like the figures, so will the jobs associated with it!

  5. Will be able to finally watch Rush this time with no X Factor and Hamish & Andy interrupting. Just have to view some of the previous episodes on 10’s catch up first!

  6. Secret Squïrrel, the government doesn’t mandate the networks have to use their HD channel to show rubbish like 10 currently does with One. The decision to show what 10 shows on One is largely up to the management of 10, not the government …. and the shows i have mentioned are completely within 10’s decision makging to show then in HD or not.

  7. @steve sydney – you shouldn’t need to worry about Showcase editing True Blood since they have different rules compared to FTA. Just catch it later in the week with the encore screenings.

  8. @Michael – unless you’re talking about watching those shows somewhere other than on channel 10, they’re all broadcast in SD since 10 is a SD channel. Blame the govt for mandating that the network’s primary channels must be SD until after the analog switch-off.

  9. I’ll record both Rush and AR

probably watch The Slap live since they’ll be no adds. As for True Blood it’s difficult but I wait for the season to come out on DVD since the show is really is towards the side of an R ratings therefore don’t trust television not to water the content down.

  10. Really enjoying Rush this year. Shame ten treat us with such contempt and only show it in standard definition. At least we don’t have to put up with watching Hawaii Five-O, Modern Family and Terra Nova in Standard Definition.

  11. True Blood season four is fantastic! Best season they’ve made so far IMO

I saw the pilot of Unforgettable and really liked it, the lead actress is quite charming and as far as crime shows go it’s one of the better ones airing right now.

Tuned out of Rush after the second episode they aired this year, will probably be axed soon.

The Slap sounds interesting based on David’s review!

  12. Yet I’m choosing the SGU final episode on Eleven. Unless there’s a power outage or something. I might catch The Slap if it’s replayed at a time I can watch.

  13. Damn and I only have access to 4 PVRs 😆

Okay Ture Blood can be recorded later since it’s re-run at 10:30 and +2 and then several times over the week.

I think unforgettable will be forgotten in the crush and Big Love is a couple of years old. I just hope Rush doesn’t loose more viewers!!
