It’s a Knockout: here’s the set

Swimming pools, conveyor belts, bungee jumps, and more. Check out the Kuala Lumpur set for TEN's revival of It's a Knockout.

And here is your first glimpse of the set of TEN’s revival of It’s a Knockout, which has been filming this week in Kuala Lumpur.

The set features a circus-like obstacle course of swimming pools, conveyor belts, bungee jumps, challenge walls and more. TEN and McDonald’s banners hang from the stadium.

The set is the same as that which has been used for The Biggest Gameshow in the World: Asia with teams from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam (see clips).

For the TEN series, Aussie teams will compete in the crazy battles, hosted by H.G. Nelson and there has been a concerted effort to have expats fill the front rows of the stadium.

It will air over summer.

  1. Everyone who has made a bad comment about this show should just get a life…. its not like you’ra professional critics at all. Give it a chance, i think you will all be pleasently surprised. The show is going to be hilarious and fun and with real aussie workers who are respected in the community. HG makes it, and is a great believer of the show! Cant wait for IAK!! wooohooooo

  2. With all those colours it could be a set from young talent time in the 1980’s. Ten is there something you are not telling us. It’s ytt being recorded in kl too??? 🙂

  3. I am under the presumption the reason for filming overseas would be for OHS rules would be relaxed enough. Where would be filming in QLD or elsewhere in australia everyone would need a safety harness

  4. The Reason why It’s a knockout was pulled off the TV in the 80’s was not because of the ratings. The fact that it was the neighbours complaining to the local council that shutdown the Show.

The Reason why Big Brother Friday night Live was made was because there was no neighbours and that was also undercover.

For the Record, Old IAK was set in a old soccer stadium in Dural which is now been demolished.

There is a big difference between Wipeout and IAK!!!.

old it is a knockout teams were run by APEX CLUBs and the money was handed out to the Commiunity.

Wipeout was the winner takes it all.

It’s a knockout is and will always be team/ Town or City/ State.

    Wipeout is 1vs1.

  5. Like others, I am disappointedti see it is being filmed overseas and almost as bad
    “indoors”

State v state, outside in Sunny or Wet Queensland is what It’s A Kockout is about.
    I won’t be watching now.

  6. by the looks of that set, they should just be honest and change the name back to “Big Brother: friday night live”

and i think using staples on a giant water slide clearly says ten isnt willing to spend much on this hence sending it overseas

kinda disappointed because i was looking forward to it, and would have loved to be able to work on it too, damn cheap ass tv stations.

(and yes im aware they didnt build it, but it clearly was cheap for the owners to build, hence cheap for ten)

  7. it does look bad. but i hope it’ll be ok on the night.
i heard that the original IAK episodes costs $100,000 to make per episode. which back then was a lot of money.
But we will see what happens

  8. Real let down after looking at the set. IAK is supposed to be, loud, outdoors and cheerful. That just looks lame. And i hope im not gonna see an audience full of Malaysians on an Australian show.
    Lame.
    Real Lame.

  9. They should film it here. It will be good economy wise from of all these people getting a job building sets etc, we would all have the opportunity to attend.. It just make sense to have it here from all aspects. I agree judging by those videos.. it’s not looking good.

  10. I was really excited about this.. But from the looks of that.. It now looks like an epic Fail….. I wonder if they will be wearing speedos and one pieces or going for a whole body suit!!!

  11. Add two cups Big Brother set, one cup padding. Stir in fluro colours and some silliness.

I’ll be interested to see the attempted ’80s simulation, particularly with respect to gameplay.

I think this is another nostalgia show that will go the way of Hey Hey.

  12. I’m happy to see it coming back, but I have to agree with others, that it really should be outside in a grassy stadium somewhere in Australia. IAKO doesn’t need a big fancy covered set and racks and racks of staging lights… put it in the open, fill the stands with kids and locals and just have some fun with soap covered tarpaulans.

Is there any word yet on whether it will retail the original music and marching band theme? I would doubt it…

  13. I think people have to remember that it’s not a full blown “just like the 80s version”. It’s made by a cost effective production company, and it’s being shown during summer, which won’t affect Ten’s already dreadful ratings. I for one see it as some fresh light summer programming which aims to be entertaining. As a result I haven’t set the bar high for it. If it was going to be made in Australia and aired during ratings I would have a different opinion!

  14. @Shelley – Agree with you there! I don’t know why they couldn’t have leased out the QE2 stadium at Mt Gravatt (which has gotta be cheap considering how little I see it used!) and used that!

I’m also wondering if they are going to have this show like it was – State Vs State… as if they aren’t using that model I don’t know if I’m bound to stay interested in the show as there’s nothing like the inter-state rivalry we have here… NSW Vs Vic – Qld Vs Mexicans (ie. All Southerners lol) and without that its just Not It’s a Knockout.

Very disappointed after seeing the vids and the image in this article… it just doesn’t look or feel right for the sort of show that I used to love watching as a kid with my parents. 🙁 Where’s the sun? Where’s the stadium? (Seriously – that venue just looks cramped to me!) Where’s the crowds cheering their state on?

Seriously disappointed so far TEN – I just hope that it “comes right on the night” and the show feels at least somewhat like the old classic and not like a cheap overseas knock-off.

@Karlos – Big Bro Friday Night Games was essentially a mini It’s a Knockout using the BB housemates and did often seem to be inspired by some of the old Knockout competitions (to me at least who was a Huge Knockout fan).

    1. There are no state crowds for IAK as the footage is about the venue being built for BGW: Asia which is subsequently hired for IAK.

There will be crowds on the night, but even the old IAK was only ever filmed in one location.
