Nine: 2012 highlights

Olympics, The Voice, Big Brother, Underbelly, The Block, Celebrity Apprentice, Tricky Business and Excess Baggage are all coming to Nine in 2012.

The Nine Network has announced its highlights for 2012, led by the Olympic Games and a string of Reality titles designed to underpin its early evening programming.

At its 2012 Programming Launch today, hosts Hamish and Andy were joined by Nine boss David Gyngell, singer Delta Goodrem, Director of Sales Peter Wiltshire and Nine Entertainment Co. execs.

Nine celebs joined with execs, advertisers and media at a Christmas lunch at Carriageworks in Everleigh. Delta Goodrem also performed a medley of her hits.

Confirmed as judges for The Voice are previously leaked profile names including Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden, country star Keith Urban, soul singer Seal and pop star Delta Goodrem. A host is tipped to be announced shortly.

Sonia Kruger, who was unable to attend due to her contractual obligations with Seven, will host Big Brother: Secrets. Pitched as “new house, new housemates, new twists, new host” it will launch on the back of the Olympics. No location has yet been confirmed.

The Block returns, including with a new elimination round, as does Celebrity Apprentice.

Celebrity weight loss show Excess Baggage contestants were confirmed: Kevin Federline, Christine Anu, Kate DeAraugo, Gaby Millgate, Darryn Lyons, Brant Webb, Ajay Rochester and Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico. Each is paired with a non-celebrity with challenges on location around Australia including the Kimberleys and Hamilton Island. Kate Ceberano hosts.

New drama series Tricky Business stars Shane Bourne, Gigi Edgley, Debra Byrne, Lincoln Lewis, Kip Gamblin, Antony Starr and Sophie Hensser. The Screentime drama revolves around a family who run a debt-collecting business in Wollongong. The focus of the series is on the family relationships but there are some procedural elements.

There are three new telemovies / miniseries including Howzat! The Kerry Packer Story (which undergoes a title change), Beaconsfield and The Great Mint Swindle starring Grant Bowler, Todd Lasance, Josh Quong Tart, Shane Bourne and John Batchelor.

Underbelly will return but Nine did not disclose its setting.

International highlights include Top Gear, Earth Flight, The Mentalist, CSI, Sherlock, Sinbad, Parade’s End, Alcatraz, Two Broke Girls and the BBC-produced The Great Barrier Reef.

Olympics notwithstanding, much of Nine’s focus was on stripping profile shows at 7pm, including Excess Baggage as well as branded opportunities in multiplatforms including digital.

  1. Big Brother!!!! They’re got to be kidding. The biggest pile of cow patties ever on Television. I wonder which TV Executive at Nine thought this was a good idea and convinced the rest of the idiots it was a good idea? Just thinking about it for a sec, whoever he or she is, deserves the biggest medal for actually mentioning the words Big Brother at a board meeting and still hold onto their job.

  2. So no mentions of a ‘revamped’ Mornings!! or RPA (which I see returning)

I’m looking forward to Alcatraz, Risky Business and the telemovies (bar the Howzat! one)
Oh and the Voice as Delta is going to be on it as she is one of the nicest people in showbiz and an excellent singer….

  3. I’m looking forward to Fringe, Sherlock, Alcatraz and possibly Howzat. I hope I will be able to see them and there isn’t major clashes.

    @ buddy029

They did play Pushing Daisies this year on GO! it was reasonably reliable too. The catch was it was aired past 11pm on Monday night/Tuesday morning mainly around midnight.

  4. When i look at that schedule i keep saying to myself where is the 8:30pm onwards content. There is nothing there. All they seem to be thinking about is stripping shows which will backfire because people will get tired of it. It worked this year but it won’t take long before its just another fad gone out the window. There are positives in the schedule like The Voice, 2 Broke Girls and the Kerry Packer telemovie but the rest looks pretty bleak if you ask me.

  5. What a horrible lot of garbage!
And there, buried under it all, is Sherlock.
Why do they bother with a program like that?
It surely must be over the heads of their regular viewers.

  6. I like the sound of Tricky Business, as I love Debra Byrne and Shane Bourne. But apart from that and Celeb Apprentice, nothing else grabs me. Definitely won’t be watching The Voice, I cannot stand Delta Goodrem, she is so fake and arrogant.

  7. Wow thats alot of programs for channel 9 and only at one single channel. Unless most of them all will not be shown obviously on the channel 9 channel but rather on thier own other digital channels such as GO.

So sounds like big brother will be telecast after the olympics or close to the end of the olympics can someone please confirm this ? I just hope they wont show very little out of this. Oh they mgiht end up saying go to your computer and watch it all live as long as you wish…. meh. Not eveyrone has internet at home..

I dont agree Again with thier cricket and rugby sports.. its Horrible for channel 9. Theres too much programes for 2012…. how on earth will all this fit in including big brother show ??? this cant be posible.. but i would rather be so happy to see sports at 3am or on other channel and make channel 9 everydays a reality tv channel. Not just sports.. enough is enough with sports in australia.. theres allready some what 9 sports channels on foxtel and there also on the free digital channels… i mean what more do they want? turn everything sports? i hate sports i really do..

Im more of a big brother fan. Call me a couch potatoe with nothing more then a nice scotch. But yeah seriously dont no how on earth will channel 9 really show all this… there wont be enough room for time slots.. Unless of course most of these new programes will be also telecast during afternoons…

  8. Typical nine trying to win viewers, I seem to recall them this year going to show pushing daisies. Never saw the light of day. Think it will be big bang theory 24\7. They have to keep their promise to win viewers

  9. If these are the highlights….well ther ‘lowlights’ are scary. I just have a gut feeling that they are gonna totally stuff up the Olympics.

Note to ch9…use all 3 channels available …apply for exemptions Now..

Note to advertisers….if they don’t use 3 channels for the Olympics….don’t waste your budgets on them….

  10. Hmm, so new episodes of The Middle started off on Nine, then eventually moved to GO!, now the new season will start on Nine next week but then in 2012, new episodes will be back on GO!. It’s so hard to keep up.

  11. I’m sorry i’m struggling to see the “highlights” mentioned in the title.
Big Brother, Underbelly, The Block, Celebrity Apprentice, Excess Baggage, Top Gear. That’s a whole lot of crap.
They’ve already ruined the olympics with their commentary line up, and if it’s anything like their NRL & State of Origin coverage, it will be delayed anyway.

Suburgatory and 2 Broke Girls are good shows. But i’ve already watched them. Survivor looks like they’ve shoved to Go.

Which leaves Alcatraz as probably the only thing i’m interested in.

  12. boring! GO, the number one multichannel my ass, they’re dreaming.

and are they all the shows they are gonna play on Go?! what about the ones they haven’t sold to Foxtel yet like Nikita, Fringe, Glory Daze and others? Hard Times was axed, just play it over summer instead!

Seven will clearly be the winners again!
