0.2% splits first week of summer

It was a wafer-thin win by Seven over Nine in Total People, but Nine took out the demos.

Seven has won Week 49, the first week of summer, by a wafer-thin 0.2% over Nine -and it all came down to Saturday night.

By the end of Friday, Nine was ahead on 0.1%, but Saturday tipped Seven over the edge, aided by 7TWO’s good performance.

Seven Network finished the week with 27.8% over Nine 27.6%, TEN 19.9%, ABC 18.2%, SBS 6.5%.

Seven and Nine tied for Primary Channel share on 19.1%. ABC1 was 13.3%, TEN 12.5%, SBS ONE 5.4%.

  1. @Cameron & @james – high school level maths. The percentages aren’t all magically exact to one decimal place. The % for the individual channels are rounded to the nearest 0.1%. The network totals are not calculated by simply adding up the shares for the individual channels (which might introduce rounding errors) but derived directly from the raw totals. Seven didn’t benefit from rounding, just the opposite – it was not cheated by rounding.

    See for yourselves.
    7 Network: 19.1 + 5.14 + 3.52 = 27.76 (rounds to 27.8)
    9 Network: 19.1 + 4.87 + 3.67 = 27.64 (rounds to 27.6)

It’s immaterial anyway as only children are interested in using the total viewer numbers as some sort of game. Real men know that the demos are where the money is.

  2. 46 straight wins in a row for seven despite the fact they had the worse schedule this week. However adding the networks shares for 7 and 9 from individual channels , they both tied. ch 7 & 9 both tied while 7two was 0.2 points ahead of Go and 7mate was 0.2 points behind Gem. Looks like rounding helped 7. People sure love the network regardless on the quality of the programming. I felt SBS was much better than 7.

Not bad for Ten considering it is summer. It even had just over 20% on Friday. ABC tends to be stronger in summer and digital channels too. Digital channels were stong. Eleven had a very good share and should have been no 1 in digitals due to having the best content.. Gem went up, first time over 3.5% in quite a while while One was over its target of 2.5% and ABC2 was over 3%. Digital channels will rule throughout summer.

Nine did win the important demos and also the big cities of Sydney and Melbourne. Cricket provides a stronger news lead in those cities. could help in Brisbane if only they took on daylight saving.

In terms of new content, both 9 and 10 had some across the week including The Middle, CSI, Mike & Molly, CSI NY, Rules of Engagement, Its a Knockout and Merlin. ABC still continued United States of Tara, My Family and Crownies and SBS still shows Letters and Numbers, Housos, Skins, Big Love and The Family. I feel SBS is the true winner with new content so well done SBS
