…and their numbers just went up bigtime.
Madonna will perform as the half-time entertainment at the XLVI Super Bowl.
Rumors had been swirling for weeks that she would take centrestage, but the news was confirmed during NBC’s Sunday Night Football game a short time ago.
The event, to take place on February 5th, will see Madonna will team up with Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched this year’s halftime show when the Black Eyed Peas performed. No doubt her interest was swayed by the release of her movie W.E. two days earlier. She is also working on a new album.
Previous acts have included The Who, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake and a ‘Wardrobe Malfunction.’
This year’s Super Bowl aired in Australia on TEN / ONE and ESPN

They have Madonna for Superbowl, we get The Seekers for the AFL Grand Final.
If anything both the NRL and the AFL could learn from the NFL, learn a lot.
Yay! A reason to watch Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big V – are you serious?! Madonna holds the record for the highest grossing tour by a solo artist in history – a record she nabbed in 2009 from herself, after having set it in 2006. When it comes to stage performance, very few can hold a candle to Madonna. To compare her to Meatloaf is absurd.
Who cares about half time, just as long as we get a nice, close game, I’ll be happy. Oh yeah, especially if Oakland make it (not holding my breath) and win…
Awesome news, after a disappointing last year, will be a huge step up this year and there’s no-one bigger than Madonna.
What a joke! Going to be worse than Meatloaf in the AFL Grand Final this year. Better hope the AFL finds a better act next year for its pre-game entertainment! Will watch the Super Bowl but wont watch the halftime show.
Ja’mie King from Summer Heights High?
that’s very disappointing news
She’s 53 now, so hopefully no wardrobe malfunctions!
