Top Gear: India special

Clarkson, Hammond, May and The Stig embark on an epic road trip across India.

As previously noted, Top Gear returns to Nine next week with its 18th season.

The first episode sees Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig on an epic road trip across India, armed with a range of uniquely British products.

Be warned, the boys are out to boost the British economy by embarking on a trade mission to the sub-continent. Bound to end in tears or a BBC apology….

With Jeremy in a Jaguar XJS, James in a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Richard in a Mini Cooper, they traverse one of the world’s most fascinating and challenging countries, devotedly promoting Britain with distinctly mixed results.

This episode is filled with the usual dose of mayhem we’ve come to expect from the world’s most explosive motoring program, all shot in spectacular locations across India’s remarkable landscape.

In Mumbai, our hosts aim to test the efficiency of the dabbawala (lunch delivery workers) by using a car instead of a train, but of course all does not go to plan.

Further north in Jaipur, the boys host a motorsport challenge, then drive to Delhi where their mission is to host a trade fair.

Afterwards they drive into the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh, towards the border with China, to test their vehicles on the high terrain and play cricket with the locals.

Top Gear began in 1977 as a conventional motoring magazine show. Relaunched in 2002 in an entertaining new format, it raced up the ratings to become BBC2’s most watched program. Top Gear is the ultimate program for audience appeal – popular with men, women and children of all ages.

Tuesday, February 21, at 9.30pm on Channel Nine.

  1. @victweety – yeah I know some sites are saying that but I don’t get it, considering aired in the US some 5 months after the rest of S17.

IMO it’s a stand alone special and not a very good one, it drags on too long and should have been 60 minutes without ads, not 90.

Again bad move Nine it’s starting too late just to avoid the Rafters and NCIS, not the best way to treat which was once a flagship show for Nine after they stole it from SBS, regardless of it’s current quality.

I’ll be surprised if this tops 600k for the 2 hours.

  2. 9:30 (9:42) is too late to start this. Will give it a miss. I’d watch the regular show at 8:30. 2½ Spams can be shown at some other time, maybe in one of the many Big Spam Theory slots.

  3. Should note that this episode is bloody boring and horrible. If you’ve seen their trips before, there’s nothing new.

This weeks episode (in the UK) was quite good though, but the quality otherwise isn’t doing Nine any favours.

They should just show the new episodes straight to Go, at least that way they could do a 7:30 timeslot.

  4. Also the India special is 2 hours long with the ads, so depending on stat time will finish sometime after 11:30pm, sorry Nine that is just too late. This special should start at 8:30 or 9pm.
