Leigh & Jennifer win My Kitchen Rules 2012

Leigh & Jennifer have been named champions of My Kitchen Rules 2012, winning $250,000 cash.

Leigh Sexton & Jennifer Evans have been named champions of My Kitchen Rules 2012, winning $250,000 cash.

They scored  58/60 points after cooking a five course meal in the Seven reality contest, including two perfect scores of 10 points.

The pair defeated fellow South Australians Nic & Rocco on 52/60 points.

Leigh & Jennifer served up Crab Congee, Scallops, Quail, Wagyu Beef Ribs and Chocolate Hazelnut Cake.

“You girls never give up. It was a beautiful five course meal,” said judge Manu Feildel.

“I can’t believe it,” Leigh, 33, said. “I didn’t think we’d get in, let alone win. It goes to show, you can do anything. Anything is possible. This is the proudest moment of my life.”

Jennifer, 25, added: “Food is our passion and to end this competition as the winners is an unbelievable feeling.”

Nic & Rocco cooked Seared Moroccan Salmon and Tuna, Bug Tails, Spatchcock Two Ways, Poached Pork Belly and Chocolate Raspberry Pop Delight.

“A very adventurous, unique dessert. It ticked all the boxes,” said judge Pete Evans.

The boys said, “We knew when we were going up against the girls what was ahead for us. The best team did win this competition. They deserved it.”

The finalists were joined by former contestants, family members and guest judges Tobie Puttock, Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan.

The show has been a big hit for Seven, delivering figures nudging 2 million viewers and helping the network to win every week of ratings so far this year.

“It’s been an amazing journey and we encourage everyone out there thinking of applying for the next series to just do it,” Jennifer said. “We had the time of our lives.”

  1. MKR really is a bizarre program. The food challenges throughout are bizarre, with time limitations that bear no relation to how you’d actually go about preparing a meal, either at home or in a restaurant. I mean, what exactly does “home restaurant” mean??!! The teams are supposedly being judged on food knowledge, creativity and food preparation skills, yet it’s bleeding obvious that they are briefed and coached at crucial points – hence the finals teams suddenly producing menus that are wildly beyond their previously demonstrated knowledge and skills. And, to cap it off, they can win despite obvious lack of knowledge or skill.
To anyone with professional food training, Nic and Rocco demonstrated superior food knowledge and kitchen skills throughout, while Leigh and Jennifer served up gravel in their faro and whisked puree in a running blender (something that could easily result in a kitchen fatality). Amazing.

  2. Oohh Please! This show is truly a sad reflection of affairs for Aus Tv. Please how can you give a perfect score for an incomplete dish!
We really need to have a good hard look at ourselves if 2 million plus veiwers are watching this rubbish on tv. Give us some more SBS and ABC doc’s.

  3. Oh and I forgot to add, tempered chocolate or the white disc if you like wasn’t mentioned on the menu. It was like an added extra. That’s how I saw it.

  4. @todd

I said the best team won because these 2 girls over the whole competition have been the most consistent. Also their techniques during the finale were higher than Nic and Rocco. Sure the boys desert showed technique but all they seemed to do lately was mousse. This is why i said imo the best team won. Besides I found Nic and Rocco to be very cocky and I didn’t like that about them. Also I trust the judges here. They tasted the food and in the end the right team wins.

  5. It may have been the editing but we thought the blokes had done enough. Still can’t believe all the perfect scores given the lack of tempered chocolate from the final dish but I guess overall the girls have been more consistent. Still don’t understand Jen’s ‘princess’ character. She was a pain in the arse the initial episodes, especially saying ‘yeeeaahh’ all the time. All the other characters stayed the same throughout but her character chnaged (for the better). Just realised that MKR, Homeland and The Insiders are the only shows I have consistently watched live every week.

  6. Had the girls pegged as the judges loved Jen’s Thai dishes throughout, and again, she did not disappoint them. I would not have ordered any of their dishes at a restaurant. All too exotic for me. However, I would like to be privy to the how the judges score. Do they decide their scores blindly, or have a group discussion ?

  7. @ The Moops, @mfitz – Didn’t the judge say she preferred the dessert without the white chocolate anyway. Congratulations girls. Let the conspiracy theories and “rigged” begin. All a CIA Channel Nine plot isn’t it. Can’t abide by a six-judge decision then don’t watch.
    Great figures for Seven too.

  8. Didn’t really watch the show very much this year. I think I just have the accept the fact that I’m more of a MasterChef viewer, even though that show’s probably going to be missing from my busy Post-Easter TV schedule.

  9. @mfitz, the only criticism of the dessert that I recall was that they did not get the white chocolate garnish on the plate. It was decided that was no big deal and they all raved about the taste of the cake. The girls deserved the win last night, the judges got it right. Overall, J and L were the best performers all season, just like Sami and Bella last year. They were worthy winners last night.

  10. Loved the ep. Congrats to Leigh and Jen. However, during an interview on SAFM just now, Leigh said that she didn’t know the results and watched the scores live with the rest of the country. When the hosts quizzed her about it, she said that it was some ‘secret stuff she can’t talk about’ re scoring etc. Did they film two (or multiple) endings/scoring??

  11. @Guy. You criticised people for thinking the result was rigged when they couldn’t possibly know because they haven’t tasted the food. This is a good point. However, you then said that the best team won in the end… How can you know if you haven’t tasted the food? You are contradicting yourself!!!
Although I did find the show to be very entertaining, at the end of the day you need to trust that the judges and producers are fair and accurate. But when it all comes down to dramatic television and ratings I don’t know if they always would be…

  12. To give the girls a 10 after saying the look of the desert was not great is bull shit.
A 10 means there is nothing wrong. They should have given them a 9 not 10.
I’m not watching the show anymore. It’s bullshit!!

  13. Amazing effort by both teams tonight. I must admit I was hoping the girls would take it out, as I thought they had been much more consistent in their cooking throughout the competition than the boys. Well done Leigh & Jennifer!!!

What an enthralling series this has been. Just enjoyable television filled with entertaining characters and great talent. This was just as good as MasterChef Series 2 – well done Channel 7!

  14. Well done girls. This is a great result. At people saying its rigged, you don’t taste the food so how do you know? Also the editing is what made me think Nic and Rocco were certainties. Its what they do. Jen is adorable. She was running around like a headless chook tonight. It was great entertainment and imo the best team won in the end. Well done girls.

  15. Amazing performance by both teams, what a stellar episode, absolutely fantastic. Loved it, so entertaining, well done to all concerned and hearty congrats to the girls.
