Missing: Matt LeBlanc in Episodes

Nearly two years ago Nine promised Matt LeBlanc's comedy would be fast-tracked to Australia. So where is it?

It’s high time to send out the search party for Episodes starring Matt LeBlanc.

Nearly two years ago Nine promised the show would be fast-tracked to us. At the very least it should have hit our screens over a year ago.

Here is a timeline of events that demonstrate ongoing problems with Australian viewers seeing the show…

June 2010: Nine announces 5 new US comedies, including Episodes, to be fast-tracked from the US  in 2010 and into 2011.

January 2011: Episodes premieres in USA.

March 2011: Episodes renewed in USA.

August 2011: Nine Spokesperson tells TV Tonight, “Episodes and Mr Sunshine are still planned for 2011.  Stay tuned.”

September 2011: Emmy nominations for Matt LeBlanc.

January 2012: Matt LeBlanc wins Golden Globe Award.

July 2012: Season 2 to premiere in USA.

  1. The show would’ve been and would be, a very good fit for GEM, rather than Go. Same with Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and the US Shameless remake, all of which Nine had the rights to and onsold to Foxtel. After showing them, then they could be onsold to Foxtel.

The Justified show was also meant to be on Go, then Nine onsold it to Foxtel, as with The Vampire Diaries season 3 and Nikita season 2.

  2. @damo – whether you like it or not is subjective, some love it others clearly don’t. Put it this way, it’s nothing like Friends but you can only judge it yourself on your own taste is comedy. IMO it more like a UK comedy even though it’s made in the US, I’m not sure what to compare it to.

  3. As much as I’m not a fan of Nine… I think the only problem here is that they clearly jumped the gun in announcing their plans for the show.

There are only 7 episodes of Episodes that have been aired in the states- and I’m guessing that Nine will start airing it around June this year so that they can move through Season 1 and into a fast tracked Season 2. Because let’s face it, if they aired 7 episodes, people in Australia would b*tch about it not being on enough, or for long enough. Or for scheduling. As always.

  4. It’s not a very good show (just mounds of wasted potential) and any comedy fan will tell you that it was nonsense that LeBlanc won the Golden Globe, so I wouldn’t worry about it, frankly.

  5. Sorry David I forgot to include a note in that last comment of mine saying that I said “atleast a year” as Foxtel very rarely go from one season to another, let alone for a series they have just premiered. However, if they keep playing 2 episodes once a week without breaks inbetween seasons, then 111 HITS could be showing season 4 in October (if my math is correct which I’m sure it isn’t as it is a public holiday after all)

  6. @ TVGuy and APM – I wouldn’t be so sure about Fringe being onsold to Foxtel as 111 HITS still have 4 episodes of season 1 to show and GO! are up to season 4, meaning that if it was onsold to Foxtel it would be on the shelf for atleast a year till they got up to season 4.

  7. TV Guy, how do you know Fringe has been sold to foxtel? GO themselves on Facebook said they have a date set, and will announce it shortly. the last time they said that shows like V Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Nikita and so on were sold to Foxtel so its hard to know what to believe anymore.

  8. After one year it should have been onsold to Foxtel. I’m better that they are waiting for the second season to start in July so they don’t just have 7 episodes to show as it is a bit of a waste only having enough episodes for not even 2 months (@ 1 a week).
@ David Knox – you left off the timeline that as of 17 Feb 2011 it had sold to 186 broadcasters worldwide – digitalspy.com.au/media/news/a304146/episodes-sold-to-186-countries.html

  9. For those people who are waiting for the new season Fringe to be shown on GO!… sorry but the new season of Fringe will be going to air on foxtel.

  10. Agree completely with the other commenters. It’s very funny but no laugh track and an audience that appreciates Two and a Half Men is never going to get it. Much like The West Wing, I suspect someone bought a program that would have been far better on the ABC and now can’t work out what to do with it.

But for those who haven’t seen it yet, it is showing again on BBC’s iplayer.

  11. ‘A.’ certain lady in Melbourne wants to say something about Fringe having apparently gone missing too. It’s prob stuck in the other universe – the one where Nine’s programming department knows about the internet and doesn’t treat its audience with contempt.

  12. surley they could find a place for it on Gem or GO, theres plenty of free slots! the newer Season of Curb Your Enthusiasm has also been missing from Go!

  13. You’d be kidding yourself if you say you seriously believed all 5 of those comedies announced in 2010 would make it to air.

My prediction is what happened with Pushing Daisies – Episodes will premiere on Go at 1am sometime in 2016 with no promotion.

  14. I watched it all last year cos i knew Nine wouldn’t show it. Why wait? Brilliant series and very funny. Glad Matt LeBlanc won the Golden globe. I liked Mr Sunshine too so shame that was axed.

Episodes doesn’t really fit with Nine’s audience though. One because it’s funny, and Nine only really plays crap comedies that aren’t funny at all. And two there’s no laugh track. We all know Nine’s viewers are complete morons who need a laugh track to tell them what’s funny.

This would have been perfect for the ABC

  15. For the billionth time Nine shows complete and utter contempt for their audience. You would think that instead of showing endless Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory repeats they’d show this instead or at the very least make this a primetime GEM show (remember that other channel you have Nine? The one with no original programming). Of course they’ll eventually put in on and them cry foul that no one is watching it since anyone who would has already downloaded it
I’ve said it numerous times before, it’s no wonder Australians are some of the worlds biggest illegal downloaders. With networks screwing around audience members why should we bother with them? They’re just conditioning the younger audiences to do it and in ten years time Australian networks will be scrambling to get their audiences back…

  16. Saw this on the plane going to the UK last year. Watched all the eps back to back. Very funny. I have given up on Nine GEM and GO. No new content. Still waiting for Pan Am which should be put on GEM instead of all the repeats of the Closer. They said that they didn’t know what to do with it.

  17. I suspect many people will have seen it now, one way or another.

I enjoyed the series, mainly because of the two British leads. Low-key comedy.

  18. Seen it all and loved it! Can’t wait for season 2! Bugger waiting for Nine… They have Gem and Go both screaming for decent original content what gives?

  19. Already watched it, not waiting for 9 anymore. Even if they did air it, you’d be hard pressed to keep up with which timeslot the new episodes *might* appear in.

  20. The problem is while I like the show it’s a off beat comedy with no laugh track (or studio audiance) to tell the viewers when to laugh so it might not fit into their plans.

ITA it should have aired over a year ago, at least put it on GO! or GEM.

Can’t wait for (Nine) season 2…

I can understand them holding off on Mr Sunshine since unfortunately it was axed after just 9 eps, still worth a watch for Matthew Perry fans plus the other well known cast members like Allison Janney. Nine should have burnt this off on GO! long ago.
