ABC’s First Tuesday Book Club is asking book-lovers to nominate the 10 Aussie Books to Read Before You Die for a special to air later this year.
Jennifer Byrne says, “What is it that makes a book special? The characters, the writing, or what it says to you about our country? We want to hear from readers from all walks of Australian life so we have the most exciting list – a top 10 which will keep us happy and reading the best of Australian for years to come.”
Katrina Sedgwick, ABC TV Head of Arts added, “We are delighted to be celebrating the National Year of Reading with this wonderful project from the First Tuesday Book Club team. It’s a great way to be able to explore what really inspires Australian readers, across the spectrum – and to showcase the finest classics, as voted by the public.”
Voting is now open at abc.net.au/aussiebooks and closes on Friday 16 November, 2012. Everyone who votes will be in the running to win the 10 chosen books.
The 10 Aussie Books to Read Before You Die special will air in December.

I have read so many good Australian books lately, two that come to mind are “A Fortunate Life” and “1788”.
@Timbo – I think TEN would be saying that actually. ABC1 would be quite happy with the number of nights they beat TEN, and come within 1 point on other nights.
As for two books, try “Chariots of the Gods?” and The Bible, and see how one explains the other.
The ABC should be asking “please watch us before we die”
LOL! I read that as Kyra Sedgwick.
