Yes, terribly predictable.
Yeah, and for what it’s worth I’m dismayed that Helen Garner or Peter Carey didn’t make the top ten. But hey, if it means people pick up books and read then no matter!
Personally I found Cloudstreet a wonderful book but being a Perth girl living in Sydney at the time of its release, it took me straight back to the west, so perhaps that’s part of my love for it.
“Here’s Luck” only managed to come in at 49? Pffft, people have no taste these days!
I must be out of step (again). I read Cloudstreet and found it an overblown tale about very little … as significant as a passing cloud. Where is Colin Thiele? One “Sun on the Stubble”, “February Dragon” or “Storm Boy” is worth these 10 and more.
Power Without Glory is #16.
Cloudstreet – Great book, terrible TV adaptation!
But, where the hell is Frank Hardy’s ‘The Power and The Glory’
To the surprise of no one.
