The Shire update

Next week TEN screens The Shire twice a week.

So nice they played it twice?

Next week TEN screens The Shire twice a week: 8pm Mondays and Wednesdays.

TEN indicates the latter is a “New Time” meaning it will be more than a once-off.

Last night the show rated 754,000 which was a drop of about 20% on its debut.

Corrected.

  1. If I don’t like a show I just don’t watch – end of story. There are plenty of other options. God forbid you could actually turn the TV off and read a book…I hear 50 Shades of Grey is popular…;)

  2. If they are wanting to play shire 2 nights a week it’s probably to chew up all the episodes as they wont renew it – either that or the ten programmers are trying to waste more shareholders money…..

I suspect that those who think playing this rubbish twice a week is a great idea could possibly be channel ten stooges ……. you have got to be kidding to think playing it twice a week is a great idea

  3. I like this idea. I am watching because it is pure trash tv but with the amount of flipping ads you only get like 13 minutes of show so twice a week will be good.

One thing I absolutely cannot stand though is the stupid Mitch / Gabby will they won’t they. Hot tip – I could care less, it is beyond uninteresting, and the flash back kiss, really? How does a ‘reality’ show have a flashback.

Re Puberty Blues, I am 32 and will be watching with glee. The book was late 70’s and the movie early 80’s which was only 30 – 35 years ago, not the 50 – 60 some people seem to be making out.

  4. And why are people still referring to this as a reality show, TEN have openly come out and said it’s not… people still can’t get there head around that.

  5. The Shire is a terrific show. Critics can say what they like, but even with a decline in all people the show still pulls very impressive demos.

The 2 x per week is a smart move by Ten to hook as many people into the series before BB.

@Jezza I completely agree, I feel a lot of the attacks made at the Shire are completely unwarranted, it’s a bloody good watch!

  6. Is it true that the original finished product was sent back to Shine because the Exec Producers were underwhelmed? If that is correct I’d live to see how bad the first offering was. It is deserving the ratings

  7. @sav – you are kidding, right? I am yet to remember a case where a once a week show has moved to multiple times a week (on Ten, at least) and survived. There may be a case, but I cannot remember it, it is usually a pretty certain kiss of death.

As to having it as a lead-in to Puberty Blues, I have to shake my head at the execs at Ten sometimes. I think that most who will watch PB will be an older audience, wanting to re-capture their youth, not the brain-dead teens that find The Shire entertaining…

  8. I really enjoyed it more this week now they have increased the cast a bit. That girl and the 3 guys was hilarious. Beckaa’s Dad is still creepy. I really think Aussies are afraid to laugh at themselves, that’s why there is so much complaining about this show. .

  9. Finally aussie tv produces world class car/train wreck tv and everyone knocks it…..talk about tall poppy syndrome

Beackaaaa, Sophie & Versarnna….your dreams will come true OUAT

  10. @ Sharpy, There’s no burn off happening, Ten always planned to show The Shire twice a week, it was originally slated for Mondays and Thursdays in it’s first week before Ten changed their minds. Most likely they have decided to show it on Wednesdays instead is because it will be a lead in to Puberty Blues, which is also set in the Shire.

  11. and p.s Ten, if you want to lift your shitful ratings in Sydney (Ten’s worst market), don’t do it with bogan trash ‘starring’ people from The Shire

  12. Get rid of it quickly Ten. Burn this turd off over the Olympics. It’s a bad fit for the mostly positive and broader demographic stuff coming post Olympics.

  13. Won’t that just burn through the amount of episodes they have?

How long till we get the update that it’s been renewed for a second season? Long live the botox girls!
