Big Brother housemates in lockdown -each with a secret.

Now that 14 housemates are officially in Lockdown, Nine confirms the "Secrets" concept for the 2012 season of Big Brother.

As of yesterday afternoon the housemates, and several “reserves,” for Big Brother 2012 went into lockdown.

The 14 contestants, each accompanied by a friend as company, are now banned from all access to media and online before they enter the house at Dreamworld next Sunday.

Prior to their lockdown, Nine had gone stale on questions of whether the Big Brother “Secrets” was still part of the show. It was even desperate that TV Tonight not speculate on the inclusion of Secrets prior to the lockdown, for fear of housemtes getting wise to the concept.

Nine had included the “Secrets” as part of the show when it announced the revival but then immediately dropped it from all conversations.

However, all 14 housemates will be harboring a Secret from their fellow housemates.

It’s now more than a year ago that TV Tonight first floated the idea that Big Brother could be revived by basing it on the French version, Secret Story in which housemates are compelled to interact with one another to try and discover each secret and win cash prizes. Clearly we’ll be getting some version of that…

There has been speculation that Sydney socialite Ruby Jacenko is one of the 14, but in true BB style Nine won’t comment on such rumours.

The series launches 7pm Monday August 13 on Nine with a 90 minute edition, followed by one hour editions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and a half hour episode on Friday.

A one hour episode, presumably the first eviction is also set for Sunday August 19, with episodes ranging from 30 to 90 minutes in the second week.

So far no late night editions are currently scheduled on GO! but it has scheduled afternoon replays beginning 4:30pm August 14.

  1. All the fun stuff happens on the adults only/up late version. This will die without it just like it did on channel ten when they only had the daily shows in the last season.

Viewers can’t connect with the housemates if they don’t get to see the “real” them.

I think this will start off well and then people will get bored really quickly.

  2. Whilst I didn’t follow it religiously, sometimes the Friday Night Games were entertaining. I think they’d be silly to can that concept. The panel of Mike Goldman, Ryan Fitzgerald and Bree Amer worked very well and made for some light hearted fun on a end of week Friday night.

  3. Here’s a big secret from inside Nine. Because of all the publicity the Shire generated executives at Nine, desperately tried to sign up Sophie and Veanessa to be intruders in BB. They were turned down but it’s interesting to note, after all the “you’ll be surprised about who’s in the house” they still went after these girls.

  4. In this weeks TV Week is shows that in NBN regions Big Brother will be airing at 7.30pm Monday to Thursday. Does not air on Fridays – but if like The Block the Friday episode will air over the weekend sometime either on NBN/GO!/GEM.

  5. Interesting to see that, with the 1-hour 7.00-8.00pm shows, 9 is increasingly willing to go against the traditional 7.30-8.30 and 8.30-9.30 slots of its competitors. A very bold move which worked for 9 occasionally during The Block. If it works with BB on 4 nights, it steals a sizable chunk of viewers from the others at 7.30pm.

  6. to user @Snugg
I would not no if NBN channel in your region will see broadcast of big brother. But im presuming NBN is part of channel 9 or half the channel ?

Ask yourself… Have you seen any big brother commercials and promos about it on NBN ? if so then your more then likely to yes see big brother on that channel. Unless of course you have channel 9 australia. Every state has a channel 9 based. Unless your living down the coast line. It all depends though…

NBN is newcastle ? but sitll if you have seen big brother promos of lately on NBN or any network you have then thats where big brother will broadcast even if the channel is not called channel 9 itself.

Im sure david and or someone here may help you further more.

  7. Is this the new dance show for challenged folk with faulty pogo sticks?
PS. Using The Pierces “Secrets” when already the opening credit song for “Pretty little lairs” just seems to be unoriginal and lazy.

  8. Dammit – whilst I loathe the very existence of this diabolical excuse for a TV show, I’ve got a secret… I think the host chick is hot and quite ‘turn for’-able.

  9. Do you know whether in regional area like NBN regions, will BB be on at 7pm or will it be on at 7.30pm – like how The Block was , when it was on?

  10. the first 3 seasons and the last season were probably the best. Channel nine will destroy big brother and we will probably see it back on ten in 2013.

  11. This gonna sound crazy.

Friday night I attended a twitter based event and couple comes over starts talking. Girl whom identified and looked similar to Ruby with her boyfriend

  12. This is the show i’m looking forward.I’ve been a BB fan from the beginning.I just hope this comeback is worth waiting for and that we get a good mix of people.
Just want to add I don’t know what I’ll do on the nights OUAT is also playing,as I don’t have any other viewing alternatives.I think OUAT might win out on those nights.BB luv ya,but …

  13. And just as they’re about to announce who’s been evicted they’ll cut to a replay of earlier footage or an interview with someone who isn’t even competing.

I didn’t think it would be possible for a network’s Olympics broadcast to be worse than Seven’s Beijing effort unless it was deliberate, but Nine have somehow managed it.

  14. Fantastic news. But some what this big brother seems far different then its traditional style previewsly. I just hope there will not be annoying and screaming females and males. As big brother did advertice no junky females and no junky buff guys. But if thats not the case. Then i don’t no why they bother making a commercial with the shuffle dance in the first… place…. I don’t think GO will have anything related to big brother what so ever. I just know because i havn’t seen anything advertice for GO about Big Brother. And they did indicated many tiems that this show will be family friendly viewing. But looks like it will broadcast less time about big brother then what it used to be on channel 10. Unless… there is that delay pasing the time slot time like ch10 used to do all the times.. delaying other tv programes. I believe all this pre-edted of the opening night will be far too much editing and you will more likely to see that.. It won’t feel like it would of been that live if they let it show everything without so much editing. There will be far too much visual effects and graphics instead of the actual full lenth of the opening night. It will be almost like watching a 90minutes or more of a (highlights – opening night of big brother) thats what my theory might be about this on channel 9. However i can’t wait to watch and keep to know news whats new on BB here in the forum.
