US dramas Vegas and Elementary have been given full season orders by CBS, which is good news for TEN.

TEN announced modern-day Sherlock Holmes reimagining Elementary as part of its 2013 line-up yesterday. It stars starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu.

Vegas and Elementary have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. “Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.”

Elementary has been strong in the demoa in the US,  averaging 14.3 million viewers in Timeshifted data.

Vegas, currently screening on Sunday night on TEN, a high-concept period drama starring Dennis Quaid, is averaging 14.9 million viewers in Timeshifted numbers, but in Australia us yet to make its mark.

CBS already pulled Made in Jersey off its schedule, while the future for Partners is unclear.

  1. Vegas and Elementary are two well-deserving shows. They both have strong acting, and it’s enough that I plan to save the entire 1st seasons to my Hopper; I know I’m bound to feel nostalgic and miss some Liu onscreen, and I have a DVR that has more than enough recording space. Now if I could only convince a coworker at DISH to appreciate the new spin on Watson, all would be right in the world.

  2. The future of Partners is really pretty clear, it won’t be getting a 2nd season and will likely struggle to get past its initial 13 episode order. Even being a Sophia Bush fan, that is probably for the best as the show is pretty dreadful.

@ Secret Squirrel – David’s borrowed “high-concept” from the source, but I’m surprised they used it as CBS shows are generally as far from “high-concept” as is possible. The vast majority of their scripted series are either cop shows or unfunny comedies.

  3. David, I’ve watched the two eps of Vegas that have been on Ten and, while I think that it’s ok and works as a wind-down from Homeland, I wouldn’t call it “high-concept”.

  4. Good news then David and tomothyd. I’m glad Elementary seems to be worth watching and that it got renewed. Thanks for the news. I hope I can watch it. I guess time will tell if I can.

  5. I watched the pilot of Elementary and thought it was average. The only interesting things about it were Lucy Liu and the red scarfs that Johnny Lee Miller likes wearing.

I reckon the show will run out of steam early, its very unoriginal and derivative. Much like The Mentalist but with a less compelling cast and no overarching storyline

  6. Elementary is great, I expected it to be awful and have been really suprised.
Partners is the best new comedy this season, the rest I think are terrible. The only thing about partners which doesn’t work too well is Brandon Routh’s character. The relationship between the rest of the cast\characters works very well. I think this show needs time to build. Its very much like the early years of Will and Grace
