US drama The Secret Life Of The American Teenager will end with its fifth season next year.

The ABC Family series about a group of teenagers starring Shailene Woodley, Daren Kagasoff and Megan Park has also featured Molly Ringwald as a mother.

Woodley is perhaps the best known of the cast after starring in 2011’s The Descendents and earning a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

“I was naturally born an optimist, I love life, even when things are not going so great. But for some reason, I guess I can tap into my dark alter-ego emotional side very easily and play these characters on the screen,” Woodley has previously told the Huffington Post.

In Australia the series airs on FOX8 and Series 5 begins in the US in March.

  1. Love this show. will be sad to see it finish, but probably couldn’t go much further after the characters finished High School. Got into it after seeing Shailene Woodley’s performance in The Descendants. As I don’t have access to Fox 8 had to buy all but the first dvd [legally] online.

  2. I love the show but it had to end sooner or later as the story lines are becoming repetitive. I seriously hope FOX8 don’t mess about with showing it as it has taken them over a year just to show the second half of season three. It’s like Smallville (with them currently showing episodes that originally aired in 2009). Although it is doubtful beyond belief, it would be great if FOX8 just ran it from now to the end in it’s current timeslot as it will mean they could finish airing the show in about a year – freeing up slots for other programs.
