Sorry….no Golden Globes on Free to Air.

And the award for skipping the Golden Globes once again goes to Free to Air broadcasters.

golden-globeNext Monday is the 70th Golden Globe Awards, but in case you were wondering they won’t be seen on Free to Air TV.

In fact the Globes have not been on Australian FTA for at least the last five years (although I seem to recall a replay on ELEVEN several days later). That’s despite them taking place in our summer non-ratings.

Thankfully Foxtel again brings us a Live broadcast, continually giving us award shows as they happen in the US.

TV Tonight will be blogging Live winner results next Monday.

  1. I have the Golden Globes set to tape on Foxtel but what I really wanted to watch was the ”People’s Choice Awards” and that isn’t being broadcast on any channel (not even Foxtel) 🙁

  2. @carolemorrissey If Foxtel didn’t exist it doesn’t necessarily mean that the FTA channels would air the awards shows, other programs, or second seasons of shows you mention. They just wouldn’t get shown here at all. I can’t see any point directing anger at a broadcaster who is airing these programs, surely that should be directed at Channel 9 etc… who isn’t.

  3. Yeah, it really pisses me off that they don’t air on regular TV any more. I’ve lost count of the shows I miss out on because they end up on Foxtel. I think once they have aired on foxtel they should air on regular TV so those who don’t have foxtel don’t continually miss out on great shows. It’s really annoying when ch 9 or gem air a first season of a show, and you are really into it, then the next seasons go to foxtel. It happened with Damages and Pretty Little Liars. At least ch 9 eventually aired the other seasons of Damages, but the final has aired on Foxtel, hopefully they will eventually air it on ch 9. Still waiting for the rest of Pretty Little Liars though. I hear of shows when they air in the US and think what a great show, can’t wait to get it here, and then it ends up on bloody Foxtel, sooooooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I hope TV1 and Arena are on the short list to get a HD feed as watching these presentations in standard definition doesn’t do them justice. I could really tell the difference when switching between Starpics and Starpics HD during the Oscars last year. Speaking of the Oscars, any news on who will screen it on STV now that Movie Network has closed down?
