Dawn French has been signed as the second judge for Australia’s Got Talent.
The UK star joins with Mel B on the Nine judging desk.
The panel is also being expanded to 4 judges.
French is very popular with Australian audiences thanks to her UK comedies French & Saunders and The Vicar of Dibley.
“Dawn is widely recognised and adored by Australians and her contribution to the show will deliver on our promise for a bigger and better series,” said Nine’s head of television Michael Healy.
Media are again tipping Dannii Minogue as Mel B’s judge on The X Factor.
TV Tonight understands the next two judges to be revealed are Australian.
Seven better hope Nine hasn’t signed Guy Sebastian…

And the least surprising news of the day – Dannii Minogue expected to be confirmed over the next 24 hours as joining the X Factor on 7.
Could nine bring back Red Symonds?
That Actually awesome news! Love Dawn French she’s funny and is world famous, and is actually talented. Far more excited about seeing her on AGT than Mel B. Not a big fan of Mel’s… She shudda stuck to X Factor.
I love Dawn French (long time fan) but this is….bizarre! I might actually crane a look just to see her in completely different role but it seems like too strange a combination.
Although I don’t like reality shows, I think I am giving Australia’s Got Talent a go this year. On paper it’s to trounce the X Factor and the move from 7 to 9 a massive ratings hit.

Also, I concur wholeheartedl with deedeedragons. Coles ads are so annoying!
That said, I think Dawn will be witty and entertaining. A damn sight better (and much classier) than Sandilands or McFadden.
Don’t we have anybody who lives in Australia who can judge talent? I nominate Josh Thomas.
Australia’s Got Talent have Mel B and Dawn French, and X Factor has Nat Bass lol. I might give AGT a go this year.

dawn was a judge on “superstar” last year in england and did a grande job along with our jason donovan. looking forward to ceing her judging again

I watched a promo for AGT a few nights ago. They said the word “lean”. The word “lean” tells me theyve cut down in costs.
Mel B… Meh. But Dawn French is a very good get. I won’t be watching but I actually think Nine might turn it into a hit once again. I stopped watching the moment seven hired McFadden and sandilands
