2013-06-26_1131Seven has grabbed Australian rights for anticipated US drama The Blacklist, featuring James Spader.

Spader stars as the world’s most wanted criminal, Raymond “Red” Reddington, who mysteriously turns himself in to the FBI with an explosive offer to give up a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani. But his only condition is that he will work only with a newly minted FBI profiler, Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone).

Angus Ross, Seven’s Director of Network Programming, said: “The Blacklist is one of the most talked about shows from this year’s LA Screenings and we are thrilled to have secured this hotly anticipated drama. We are looking forward to bringing more of Sony’s quality tv series, movies and formats to Australian viewers across our suite of channels – Seven, 7mate and 7TWO.”

The deal is an extension of Seven’s current partnership agreement with Sony Pictures Television and includes The Dr. Oz Show, comedy Men At Work and other current and library SPT series and feature films.

However a Seven source told TV Tonight the agreement extension is not a full output deal with Sony Pictures Television.

Mark Young, senior vice president, distribution and sales, Australia & New Zealand, for SPT said: “Seven has proven to be a great partner and we are delighted to continue bringing some of our best content to their viewers.”

The Blacklist will air this year on Seven.

  1. Don’t know if it is worth watching American TV Series on traditional free to air anymore as usually after 1 season the ratings drop and its shafted late at night or some other channel at a strange time.

Im suprised to say this but think 10 is the only one not doing this eg The Good Wife and SVU

  2. Of all the new pilot previews i saw this was the one that stood out. Glad Seven got a hold of it. I wonder if this means the Michael J Fox Show also produced by Sony might be going to another network. Some great pickups for the multi’s too.

  3. It certainly has one of the best trailers out of the new US shows, only shame about 7 having it is it means it probably gets held back until February.

  4. This series looks awesome and I can’t wait to see the pilot. And that’s great that someone has finally brought TBS’ Men At Work. That is the second, of the many great, TBS comedies that have been aired in Australia (the other being Wedding Band on TEN). P.S. I don’t include Cougar Town in the count as it was originally ABC’s/

  5. .Sounds like one of those series that will get incredibly convoluted over time…Don’t know.as I haven’t heard anything about it til this story

  6. Substitute serial killer for terrorist and it is the plot from Silence of The Lambs.

It was reported that Sony wanted more than anyone was prepared to pay for DOOL.
