Tonight ONE screens an Aussie series that follows a group of long-line fisherman who risk it all for every catch, Hardliners.

The eight-part series is produced by Cordell Jigsaw (Bondi Rescue, Recruits) and has previously aired on Pay TV.

Hardliners focuses on the unique breed of action men who risk their lives every day chasing monster fish off the east coast of Australia.

The series features three boats and their skippers – Captain Tony Lagana and the Santo Rocco; Captain Tony Cross and the Angelica; and Captain Paul Lavelle and the South Seas 1. Each week, viewers will witness all the action at sea as these captains and their crew battle the elements – and often each other – in the hunt for big tuna and swordfish.

The prize for all their hard work is a good payday where a five-day trip can be worth $100,000. However, a bad catch can mean the crew can spend days at sea and not make a single cent, while the owners make a painful loss.

Not only that, these fisherman face danger every step of the way – from the fearsome killer sharks that surround their boats to the fierce winter storms of the Southern Pacific Ocean and near misses with the huge cargo ships who often run over their fishing lines.

Viewers will also get an insight into these fishermen’s lives on the land, and the wives and children they leave behind for months on end.

Hardliners provides a remarkable and fascinating insight into human endurance and bravery. In the end, viewers will marvel at the sheer guts, good humour and true grit of these fishermen.
