Year of the Doctor

Did you get up early to join in the fun of the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who?

2013-11-24_0113It’s finally here.

The world marks 50 years of Doctor Who with The Day of the Doctor starring Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt, Billie Piper, Jemma Redgrave and Joanna Page.

If you got up early to watch this (or maybe stayed up all night in Perth?) I’d be keen to hear about it. Whereabouts in Australia did you watch? Alone or with friends? Were you in bed or were you up wearing your favourite Dr Who t-shirt and scarf?

Or are you off to the 3D cinema screening like I am?

And what did you think of the episode -try to avoid specific Spoilers for those who will watch the 7:30 broadcast.

Replay 7:30pm tonight on ABC1 followed by An Adventure in Space and Time.

  1. @ MHA

Because they want television to exist in their part of the world. Preferably not to be replaced by something else. They understand that making viewers unhappy with your technology might actually harm them. But you can warn Australian television over and over again. They won’t listen. Or take the threat too seriously.

  2. Waited until a clean version minus ABC on-screen marketing logo and pop-up ads and in HD was made available with 5.1 audio. Was worth the wait. Why is the Brits are adult enough to not run a constant on-screen logo unlike out here in the colonies?

  3. i watched it in the morning it was brilliant i did love the cameo at the end wasnt expecting that!!!! I did listen to the ABC Digital popup station for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon they had several interviews with past doctors and companions but i missed the adventures of space and time last night have to catch up with that one soon

  4. Watched it in the evening and agree with Cheryl thought it was a bit underwhelming. Have to say I enjoyed the excellent An Adventure in Time and Space much more Seeing the early days of television was a bit of an eye opener and they also managed to choose actors and actresses who looked uncannily like the persons they were playing. Also recorded and watched the Graham Norton Show which was excellent last night with David Tennant, Matt Smith, Emma Thompson and Robbie Williams. Very funny (especially David and Emma).

  5. It was too early a start for me, so I recorded it and watched it Sunday. It was great to see all the doctors feature in a small way and I especially loved seeing Tom Baker again. David Tennant and Matt Smith worked very well off each other and all in all, I felt it was a great episode.

  6. We went to 3D screenings. Then came home and watched An adventure in…. Both were brilliant.
Be watching them again tonight, since nothing on TV. To make sure spot all the cameos.

  7. I recorded the early screening and watched it the afternoon. After seeing how ABC butchered the closing credits with an ad on the evening screening, I am glad I timeshifted the original screening. It is the Doctor Who way with all that timey wimey stuff.

Loved seeing Capaldi and wish the other special cameo hadn’t been spoiled by Studio 10 last week.

How good was Adventures in Space and Time. I loved it.

  8. We got up early and watched as a family – in our Who shirts and Who PJs – I was drinking out of my Dalek cup and chatting to friends around the world on facebook. We watched the Peter Davison and Georgia Tennant “doco” later in the day, listened to the ABC popup station and then watched the ep again and the brilliant brillant Mark Gatiss show while eating 50th anniversary Tim Tams!

  9. I completely failed to realise it was on in the a.m.!

Woke up when it was about 2/3 done, when I realised my mistake I acted like Homer Simpson waiting for a gun store to open until it popped up on iView; so I watched it there, in bed on my iPad.

  10. @Leo – The War Doctor fits in between the Eighth (Paul McGann) and Ninth (Chris Eccleston) Doctors.

The prequel miniepisode The Night of The Doctor explains it it you missed it last week:

  11. @Leo – Hurt was presumably regenerating into Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor.

We should see Capaldi at the end of the Christmas special I imagine.

    I thought it was brilliant.
