Family denies lawyer represented Schapelle

The Corby clan has denied the woman who appeared on the Today show, had ever been hired as their family lawyer.

2014-02-07_0042The Corby family has denied the services of lawyer Kerry Smith-Douglas, who appeared on the Today show, had ever been contracted.

Yesterday Smith-Douglas, introduced as a former lawyer for the family, made headlines after host Karl Stefanovic asked her how Corby might celebrate her impending release.

“She’ll probably pop a cork of champagne and then roll up a big marijuana joint the size of a cigar and kick back and enjoy herself,” she said.

The comments contradicted repeated claims of innocence by the family.

In a statement the family said, “Ms Smith-Douglas has never been retained by any member of the Corby family. They met with her on 2 occasions but they declined to engage her as their lawyer.

“The comments that Ms Smith-Douglas made on the Today programme are in bad taste and ill informed.

“Channel 9 and the Nine Network should take more care to check their sources before broadcasting such insensitive and hurtful material.”

But in 2010 Corby’s mother, Rosleigh Rose, endorsed Smith-Douglas, saying: “She’s a strong and dedicated woman and we’re going to work with her to bring Schapelle home.”

Nine declined to comment.

  1. I’ve seen Kerry Smith-Douglas commenting on this case many times over the past few years. Kerry was also charged with possession of marijuana herself, on the Gold Coast a few years ago.

  2. The headline reads, ‘Family denies lawyer represented Schapelle.’
During 2010 however the bogan queen mother
stated and I quote,”She’s a strong and dedicated woman and we’re going to work with her to bring Schapelle home.”
OK smit0847, just who in reality is the actual nutcase?
