Nine to rerun Schapelle telemovie

A news special and the Schapelle telemovie will air tonight on Nine.

Doc McGee StillsNine has finally confirmed its TBA programming for tonight, just hours from the clock striking 8:40pm.

After being concerned the nation would have hit Schapelle Corby fatigue by Monday, it has opted to screen a Nine News special on her at 8:40pm followed by a rerun of the telemovie at 9:40pm.

Last night the drama attracted 1.02m against Seven’s INXS miniseries.

With the news today that convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby has walked free from Kerobokan Prison, Nine News will broadcast a special presentation tonight at 8.40pm –Schapelle: Finally Free.

After nine long years in the notorious Balinese jail, Corby was released on parole today, under strict conditions that will see her remain on the Indonesian island until 2017.

Schapelle: Finally Free will present unrivalled reporting on what the future holds for Corby, who is arguably Australia’s most infamous criminal of all time.

Hosted by Peter Overton, the programme will feature analysis and commentary from Nine News’ stable of expert reporters on the ground in Indonesia, including Karl Stefanovic, Tim McMillan, Mark Burrows, Tracy Vo, Michael Best And Lizzie Pearl.

Then, at 9.40pm, Channel Nine will broadcast a special encore presentation of the highly anticipated movie event of the year, Schapelle, based on Corby’s arrest, trial and conviction.

So why did they ‘Bump’ it in the first place, I still think this was all about pre-sold advertising revenue and utter desperation.

  2. Nine would have offered the most for the interview. Seven and Ten would actually have trouble fitting it in this week.

I guess the family wasn’t happy with the TVM sond Nine are going ahead with a special without an interview. The repeat of Schapelle will probably rate more than a movie repeat in that slot.

Shows have been repeated quickly before, but usually when a network is desperately trying to build an audience for the second episode after the premiere was crushed by something.

Sorry David I just tried to politely use the internationally recognised version of ‘ how do you know if you have s..t yourself, or should I ask you to not get me laughing so heartily all over again?

But can I chalk one up for this mugs question/prediction comment this morning in ‘Dumped; Now its Schapelle v Inxs’ and before the Willesee appearance?

Sort of explains Nines urgency to extract as much as they can from a soon to become ‘Redundant’ version of Schapelle’s story.

  4. I miss this last night, also Inxs, due two better shows were on, Rake (ABC) Spies of Warsaw (SBS), guess what, I miss it again, I be watching classic TV from DVD collection.

  5. There’s a real comtempt/arrogance from 9 in this – it harkens back to the 80s when they (and other networks admittedly) would shovel up any old crap and the public would watch.

This smacks of “they don’t know what they want out there, we do, so we are going to replay it again” Has anything ever been replayed again the next night? (something that rated as poorly against the competition as this did last night?) If it starts off a duck, and quacks, it probably is a duck, 9 are like those poker players at a table who believe if they stare hard enough at their cards they will change….

  6. Repeating the telemovie only 25 hours later? And on the primary channel?
Never let it be said that Nein are scraping the bottom of the barrel, they don’t even have a barrel anymore…

  7. An hour long news special at 8:40pm about Schapelle Corby? Meanwhile, there have been bushfires in Victoria causing loss of property and injuries that will get only a few minutes coverage.

I said earlier today they would have a news special and then something else Schapelle related. I thought it would have been a repeat of the 2008 documentary they screened.

Nine should get the number three spot (behind Seven and Ten) or even number four (behind ABC), which should for once and all tell them we don’t care.

  8. “Arguably Australia’s most infamous criminal of all time”

And here’s me thinking only TEN liked making incredibly dumb statements that end in ‘…of all time’.

  9. Nine must be getting real desperate, I don’t think they have got the message yet that most of the Australian public are sick to death with Schapelle Corby.
