Warner Bros takes over Eyeworks

Dutch-based production group Eyeworks has been acquired by Warner Bros Television Group.

What Really Happens in BaliDutch-based production group Eyeworks, whose Australian arm has produced What Really Happens In Bali, Kalgoorlie Cops and Kings Cross ER, has been acquired by Warner Bros Television Group.

Warner Bros takeover, estimated at US$270m, includes Eyeworks’ businesses in 15 countries across Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. It will also take over all of Eyeworks’ international distribution activities for formats and finished productions.

Ronald Goes, exec VP and head of Warner Bros International Television Production, said: “We’ve long admired the way that Eyeworks has been built into a global player in TV production and we’re proud that today it becomes part of the Warner Bros family.”

Eyeworks Australia, headed by managing director John McAvoy, has also produced Meet The Frockers, Celebrity Splash, Being Lara Bingle, Gangs Of Oz, DIY Rescue, Missing Pieces, You Saved My Life and Territory Cops and has been operating since 2004.

  1. Meet The Frockers, Celebrity Splash, Being Lara Bingle? ‘Risk creativity going out of the window’? These were terrible shows… maybe the new owners will bring new ideas?

  2. It’s not good news all these independent producers being bought up by the established big players. Creativity and risk will go out of the window in favour of making a quick buck.
