Survey says desperate? TEN roadblocks Family Feud across 3 channels.

TEN spams Grant Denyer across 3 channels at the same time. Family Feud is coming to get you.

2014-07-14_1013Family Feud is coming to get you, whether you like it or not.

If the incessant promos and watermarks haven’t been been enough, now TEN announces the show will be rolled across its three channels at the same time.

Family Feud will screen at 6pm on TEN, ELEVEN and ONE all week.

They’re not even offering to do that for the Commonwealth Games, requiring viewers to switch from one channel to another to follow a single broadcast.

“By running Family Feud across our three television channels at the same time for one week, we are making sure that as many Australians as possible have the opportunity to see it,” said Programming Chief Beverley McGarvey.

Because it is ‘simulcast’ the move means the ratings can be merged across three channels too.

But it doesn’t end there.

The show will also be repeated at 8am weekdays from tomorrow, leading into Studio 10, while Grant Denyer is a guest on The Project tonight.

TEN had better hope the move does not backfire.

Promotion is one thing, but overkill is big bloody risk.

  1. What a dud version of family feud!! One family kills every question lead 280~ to ~80 and it comes down to one win-all question. The dud family wins with a super duper million point question!!!! What a joke channel Ten! Fairdinkum – get it right! If it’s really only about one question save us 20 minutes of pain and ask the win- all question and get it over quickly! Ouch!

  2. So they have used “One (HD)” for The Project now Family Feud. Isn’t there the opportunity for Seven, Nine and Ten to Return there Simulcast High Definition channel since January 1 Any update David?

  3. Well like a few others I am a bit angry about BH 90210 being taken off for a couple of weeks, this is where the two people on Couch Time should have told us, Thank goodness for David Knox, a real gem of a journalist who keeps us up to date on TV issues.

Thanks David you are appreciated !

  4. Multichannels have taken their audience from the main channels and you get less per viewer for the smaller audience. I doubt that the networks make much money out of them at all.

They are best used by Seven who do things like target younger women on 71 and older men on 73 on Tuesdays and younger men on 71 and older women on 72 on Wednesdays.

Ten just used Eleven to cannibalise their main channel which is part of there problem. And Nine is doing the same thing with Go!.

  5. I am not commenting on something that has not even been aired…other than I will not be watching…not my type of show and not a fan of the presenter……
Only game type show I ever remember watching was Blankety Blanks with Graham Kennedy….
Probably just watch news…or leave the tv off….

  6. In my opinion networks wouldn’t be a huge fan of multi channels, ratings have gone down since multi channels launched. David could a commercial network just decide to shut down all it’s multichannels?

  7. Mass hysteria alive and kicking on the TVT blog comments! Some of you really need to re-evaluate your lives and priorities.. it’s just TV for god sake…

  8. I think you are getting mixed up with what I am trying to say as I would want the old TEN HD back, but still allow the main channel in SD but allow live programs/sport and simulcast programs/sport

  9. @sugarwalls – are you even watching 11 or One at 6pm anyway? Or are you just crusading because you disagree with the programming? If you had shares in Ten then crusade all you want to the CEO but I’m pretty sure Malcolm doesn’t care about what Ten do.

I don’t see the problem with Ten doing this, they own the joint. All you have to do is not watch if you have a problem.

  10. Very desperate. The only time a network should screen the same content across all multichannels is during major breaking news, like a terror attack or similar disaster. Not for a game show.

  11. Survey says – don’t try anything different.
If it works… you can bet 7 will copy next time they launch something! At which point it will probably be heralded as ingenious

  12. For all those who will not be watching Family Feud… Use the time to lobby the Minister for Communications to put an end to this madness.

Australians deserve better TV content and the loophole that allows channel 10 to simulcast the same crap over three channels should be illegal!

  13. Annnd- isn’t the ideal way to use multi channels is to offer alternative programming thereby keeping viewers with different tastes on your network with different shows?

Just look how well Seven do on all their channels on Sunday night – against X Factor 7TWO and Mate reached 4% each.

  14. While I can’t blame 10 for trying something different to launch a family friendly show, there is a fine line with promoting and overkill.

At least it explains why Beverly Hills 90210 is not on for 2 weeks (I gave 11 a compliment about screening BH last week I thought I jinx myself), so what is happening in the second week Comm Games ? Also read on this site ONE has swapped the times MASH is on with cops I suppose 10 feel the same demo will be watching Family Feud.

On a slightly different topic, Ten should also have programming inf/adds about Eleven and One like 9 and 7 do for their other channels to try and boost their viewer numbers across their channels. There was the ratings article on this site of how 7’s other channels are helping to boost its share.

  15. All this will do is annoy the 100,000 or so viewers of regular ONE and ELEVEN programming. They certainly won’t all stick around for Family Feud. The shows’ ratings will accumulate to be the same whether on Ten only or ONE & ELEVEN as well.

At our house, 3 girls very annoyed that 90210 is not on!

First episode will do well due to curiosity, but by end of week, the show will settle.
