  1. Wow. That is huge numbers for the NRL Grand Final and huge % share for Nine.

On a side note though (and this has been happening for some years now) – the lower grades has been coded incorrectly by either Oztam or by Nine who gives them the programs. “First Grade Division” in 11th place is actually called “State Championship Match”, while the “under 21s” at 20th place is actually the “under 20s” I’m nitpicking, but just find it annoying after some many years of not naming these competitions properly.

  2. Good to see F1 on ONE in top 20.
    Interesting race.
Well done Lewis, Nico, Seb and Dan – well done under difficult conditions. Hope the driver who crashed is doing better now 🙂

  3. Nine have better influence over NRL management than Ten or Seven ever had for AFL. It is not worth having AFL with the way our ratings count most from 6pm. AfL must wake up be4 it is too late.

Watched X Factor and the Sunday for the lady with those severe burns. I hope they do not let that woman who did it out early. Terrible thing what happened there.
Recorded Scorpion on Ten and Robin Williams remembered on SBS30.

  4. Any series that appears behind TBBT on CBS will get renewed, even badly written rubbish like Scorpion and The Millars. Though the TBBT itself took a large hit with <50s last week when paired with its own repeat.

Scorpion's regular problems, apart from being crap, are The Block and The X Factor. Ten launched it last week before the NRL. The drop represents both people watching the pregame and not liking Scorpion. We shall see which was more important next week.

  5. It might not suit the diehard sports fan, but Ch9 have been canny enough to wield their influence to have the NRL grand final played in prime time.

While it will always rate well because it is on at night, on the flip side it needs to compete with eyeballs wanting to watch other prime time shows (in this case new X Factor and new Modrrn Family).

  6. And Nine’s excuse for their treatment of NRL in Adelaide is no one watches. Well those figures are pretty good. I know it won’t get those numbers in regular season but there is an audience and they deserve better coverage. I know several years I was really getting into NRL but then Nine’s treatment lost me, but the big loser is the NRL. They’ll never grow the game if Nine keeps the rights. Once the game finished I was looking forward to the presentation, nope Nine cut straight to the trashy Big Brother.

  7. Any sport played at night rates well as people are inside, its different if it is the day when people are out. Channel 9 always have their finals of any programme at night during the ratings time.

  8. @Johnson – After the consolidated ratings have been published, I believe that the ratings for the NRL Grand Final will go up to 2.6 million. If they do it, this will be the highest ever NRL Grand Final. I think that Nine News Perth will drop once the consolidate the ratings.

  9. Huge audience for the NRL Grand Final in Melbourne (considering the Storm did not compete) and Perth (South Sydney has built up a fanbase there by playing one home match in the city every year since mid-2000s).
@Shoudy: the NRL Grand Final did not finish in Perth until 6.30pm local time, so the 197,000 is for the closing stages of the match. It nearly outrated Seven News in the timeslot. Like the GF, the Nine News ratings will be adjusted.

  10. I don’t understand why Ten premiered Scorpion and a new ep of MF up against the NRL final.

Scorpion will probably have an encore or two – but the damage has been done.

According to reports, Scorpion debuted in America to very high ratings.

Here in Australia it will be relegated to Eleven or One.

As for MF – well we know it will be repeated in a couple of weeks and again and again and again…

  11. Congratulations Channel Nine for a great telecast of the NRL Grand Final… It may have been 3 hours long but it was done extremely well. Great ratings. It’s also great to see more money spent on the entertainment and the technology. X Factor suffered last night!

  12. A record low for 7 news in Sydney! Surprised the rugby did quite well in AFL driven Adelaide. X Factor and Sunday Night held up okay in light of competition, and did very well outside of QLD & NSW.

  13. Wow! I didn’t realise that Nine News Perth have adjusted to 197k viewers following the conclusion of the NRL Grand Final. But on the other note, Nine had a strong win – 43.1%.
