While network programmers are answering questions about the success -or lack thereof- of fasttracking, none of them weighed into this point: that Aussie networks have a habit of juggling between old and new episodes.
Next Monday Nine will hold off a new episode of The Big Bang Theory, substituting it for a replay instead.
It’s not due to any immediate pre-emptions in the US, having already aired there in mid-October.
Whether Nine has decided that having the demos in the bag for the year is part of the decision-making is unclear. The show is currently Monday’s best performer, so there is every chance a repeat will be too.

Yep, 9 do have a habit of starting late and stopping early with the “fast-tracked” BBT so that they can stockpile eps for a big week of premieres on 9….”Watch Leonard and the gang in a brand new BBT on Monday, then on Tuesday there is more great new BBT…on Wednesday, you asked for it, and we bowed to your demand of yet another all new BBT – and check out the 47 episodes of the Block too – this week on 9 (we swear we have other shows)”
It’s just because they can. Nine have enough eps to run through until the end of ratings because they waited until The Block finished freeing up the slot before they started showing it.
It’s probably because the numbers for repeats have started to drop, and Nine has no other US content that is rating well, that they want to save up new TBBT episodes for next year.
Nine will show all the episodes of the series by the end of May. If people are so keen on illegal downloading, why wouldn’t they have already downloaded the next 3 eps that have aired in the US?
The Australian public have only themselves to blame for this. If you want new episodes, stop watching the repeats. Simple.
Thanks for letting us know David. If memory servs, nine usually only end showing around four episodes fast tracked, before holding them off until the new year,.When they show double eps at the start of ratings. I hope I’m wrong, would love to see another couple of eps b4 the end of the year.
Trying hard to resist other source right now!
Still sucks and I won’t be watching any more re-runs on Nine in protest… not that I have a ratings box or anything. If I want re-runs I’ll put in a DVD or watch them on Foxtel.
@jordonboh – I agree.
Summer sucks, most shows will go into re-runs here long before the US then start up late (depending on sport) meaning we have to wait even longer to get back on track.
And unfortunately with shows like TBBT Nine can get away with it, as they know the sheep that watch will watch a re-run just as much as something new.
And repeats of TBBT will still beat TBA in the rattings
and this is why people download.
Most probably holding them off til next year for ratings success. What the viewer wants doesn’t matter.
