Remembering Peter Harvey

60 Minutes man kept working until the very end.

2013-03-06_0052Journalist Claire Harvey, daughter of the late Peter Harvey, has written an article for the Daily Telegraph.

Peter Harvey passed away in March 2013, and as Claire reminds us, he kept working on 60 Minutes until the very end:

In his last appearance on 60, as he called it, Dad was shockingly thin and his beautiful deep voice was crackly and painful. He could barely stand for the three or so minutes of the piece. My brother Adam went to the studio with him that Sunday night to make sure he was OK.

In retrospect it was pretty amazing: there he was, doing live television without missing a beat, just a fortnight before his death.

The following Sunday night — just seven days before he died — Dad desperately wanted to get out of his hospital bed and do the letters again. He knew it would be the last time.

His doctor, Nick Pavlakis, told me later it was one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do — to tell Dad he couldn’t go to Nine just one last time.
