Nine's new food judges serve up plenty of enthusiasm for their upcoming show.

If food is hotter than renovation right now then Tom Parker Bowles and Scott Pickett should soon be happy blokes.

Both are judges on Nine’s upcoming series, The Hot Plate, currently filming around the nation.

The format sees existing restaurants judging one another in the chase for a $100,000 prize.

“You can expect lots of competition, some great and not so great food, plenty of passion, plenty of real life, some great contestants and suburban restaurants from all over Australia,” Pickett tells TV Tonight.

UK food critic Tom Parker Bowles (pictured right) is equally pumped by the episodes filmed so far.

“I’m an Englishman who has come over and I’m cynical. We’ve found talent and people who have really successful suburban restaurants but with a $100,000 grand prize you’re just unearthing this fantastic talent from all around the different cities and suburbs of Australia,” he says.

With such enthusiasm is he really a cynic?

“I’m a cynic, he’s a cynic, so to get excited about a program is a rare thing. And I’m not just bullshitting,” he insists.

“I came over thinking ‘ohh whatever’ but you’re finding over the different cities, places that are young, old, all Australian.

“It’s hard work, but it’s fun.”

An airdate has not yet been announced.

  1. If the so called “restaurants” were of genuine excellence It could be a great show..thats not the case for the Victorian venue unfortunately. Wont make the distance sorry.

  2. Nine is ripping the current delicate fabric of television to shreds. Very shortsighted from Gyngell who is most probably just focused on his cheque.

  3. An Englishman judging restaurants. What’s that well-used joke again? ‘In Hell the English are the cooks, the French are the engineers and the Germans are…something…’.
” places that are young, old, all Australian.” – No Greek, Italian, Chinese, Thai, etc?

  4. Am I wrong but surely this seems like the same type of format show that seven have announced early this year and believe they are still going ahead with it. If I am correct please don’t tell me that 7 and 9 are going head to head again with cooking shows now as they probably are with X factor and the voice why do nine keep jumping on the band wagon with the same shows, please 9 try and find something original for yourself.
