The Big Bang Theory is establishing a scholarship fund to support low-income science students.

The first 20 scholars of the $4m (AU$5.23m) fund will be announced on the Big Bang set later this year.

The hit show is set at Caltech university but the fund is sponsoring students at the rival University of California, Los Angeles where Mayim Bialik, who plays neuroscientist Amy in the show, earned an actual PhD in neuroscience in 2007.

“We have all been given a gift with The Big Bang Theory, a show that’s not only based in the scientific community, but also enthusiastically supported by that same community – this is our opportunity to give back,” said creator, Chuck Lorre.

“In that spirit, our Big Bang family has made a meaningful contribution, and together, we’ll share in the support of these future scholars, scientists and leaders.”

In addition to a donation from the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, the rest of the money has come from people associated with the show, including its stars, executive producers and crew.

  1. What a great story.

I was just wondering when 9 is going to screen the final 2 eps of the current season.

Also when is 9 screening final season of 2.5 men.

    1. I’ve lost track of those shows on Nine, TBBT final aired 3 weeks ago in the US and 2.5 Men ended back in Feb. Nine has drop the ball on the final season of this once great show.
