TV Honour Roll: who missed out?
Everyone loves a list. But there are some big names absent from this Who's Who of TV stars.

Everyone loves a list, but it’s never easy knowing where to draw the line.
Yesterday News Corp ran an Honour Roll of TV Royalty, with a mix of performers -both past and present- who have graced our screens.
Listed by alphabetical surname they are:
Kerry Armstrong
Lorraine Bayly
Ernie Carroll & Ossie Ostrich
Michael Caton
Vince Colosimo
Andrew Denton
Rebecca Gibney
Noni Hazlehurst
Paul Hogan
John Howard
Lachy Hulme
Aaron Jeffrey
Claudia Karvan
Kerri-Anne Kennerley
David Koch
Bruce McAvaney
Lisa McCune
Garry McDonald
Andrew McFarlane
Eddie McGuire
Craig McLachlan
Rove McManus
Deborah Mailman
Ray Martin
Molly Meldrum
Dannii Minogue
Bert Newton
Kerry O’Brien
Georgie Parker
Peter Phelps
Kate Ritchie
Ian Smith
Daryl Somers
Karl Stefanovic
Kat Stewart
Magda Szubanski
Erik Thomson
Sigrid Thornton
Steve Vizard
Mike Walsh
Jana Wendt
Mike Willesee
John Wood
Working Dog
Johnny Young
So who missed out? There are multiple Gold Logie winners absent.
Public broadcasters have not fared particularly well, especially SBS, and all of them had careers forged on Free to Air rather than Subscription.
Working Dog’s entire team is there as a single entry, lucky them. The list seems to stick to performers rather than writers or producers, and there are no news presenters (Bruce McAvaney makes the cut as a sports presenter).
Last year TV Tonight asked our critics to nominate our National Living TV Treasures and it wasn’t easy for them to limit their choices, either.
I can think of several glaring omissions who really should have overridden some choices.
But over to you. Who else should be on the list?

It’s unfair to have one Minogue sister….. Considering kylie’s Charlene is bigger then dannii’s Emma.
Denise Drysdale
Asher keddie
Julia Morris
Ray meagher
Jackie woodburn
Alan fletcher
Tottie goldsmith
Jane hall
Tom Oliver
Judy nunn
Think I’ll stop now…… Heaps are missing though.
My thinking on this though is that Kylie’s contributions to Australia have been of the music kind. A few years on Neighbours, one year on The Voice. Danni did Home and Away and then many season of X Factor, including mentoring a winning act.
Jackie Woodburne!
Alan Fletcher
Stefan Dennis
Tom Oliver
Some great suggestions here but this list makes it very clear it is about those best known for TV, those who’ve been around for a while and those still working today.
So… what’s Ozzie Ostrich been in recently?
There are a few who aren’t really working on T.V at the moment, apart from a few appearances here and there. Bert Newton, more known for musicals now. Same for John Wood.
Johnny Young. Made an appearance or two in the revamped Y.T.T.
Paul Hogan is doing live shows.
So whilst, yes, I understand there are rules to this list, I don’t get the point about working today. Not in T.V anyway. Actually, I would love to see NewsCorp do another list of whom they select to be their next generation of T.V Royalty. With rules like, they must have worked for at least 10 years on t.v and still be working on t.v.
It’s not about current roles, it’s about contribution. Ernie / Ossie is a legend. John Wood has been in the whole series of Dr. Blake this year and is currently appearing on Dirty Laundry Live. That’s versatility, gettin’ down with the kids.
You are right about John Wood, I forgot about Dr Blake.
But is Ernie / Ossie still working?
Andrew stated it’s one of the criteria is that they are still working today. Mind you I would still put them in the list as they were pretty awesome.
I’m not aware of Ernie still working, unless as part of Somers Carroll mgmt.
Cornelia Frances !!!
Robyn Nevin, Patrick Brammall
Oh and Ben Mendelsohn
Carrie Bickmore, Michael Slater and James Brayshaw on the list.
Sorry to have so many posts – Shaun Micallef.
Finally!
And Noeline Brown, of course.
Where in the frip is HG Nelson and Roy Slaven TV’s larger than life itself personalities ??
Lee Lin Chin, Sandra Sully, George Negus.
I’m surprised there’s no Jeanne Little
As her relative, I love that you’ve suggested her. However, she is in a nursing home now due to Alzheimer’s Disease. She truly deserved to be there, but sadly is not able for these kind of stories any more…
I still would’ve loved to have seen her name mentioned. She was, is and always will be a legend of Aussie TV.
I would have loved to have seen Rodger Corser on the list. Catherine McClements as well.
Catherine in particular has been in so many Aussie dramas: Time of Our Lives, Water Rats, The Secret Life of Us, Tangle, Rush….how can she be missed. I love Rodger too
Lists like this always have a contemporary bias, so great to see Lorrayne Baylie acknowledged. If this was a proper honours list, Elspeth Ballantyne whose career spanned lead rolls in Bellbird and Prisoner, and also encompassed Neighbours should be included. Possibly Penny Cook (A Country Practice and E Street) should be there too.
danii, but no kylie? danii will love that.
Aaron Jeffrey seems a very strange inclusion, small projects aside he’s never had a lead role. The leads in his main shows (mcleods, wentworth) are not on the list.
Denise’s omission is unforgivable.
He was the lead in the Strip.
Marta Dusseldorp is missing from that list too! Where is she? Personally think the list is a little flawed if you ask me.
Still another big name nobody has mentioned yet.
Any clue?
I can’t quite believe they don’t have Asher Keddie on that list.
I thought so too.
Strange how they have Kochie and Karl but no Melissa Doyle or Lisa Wilkinson. They also forgot Steve Liebman. He must of only did Today for 20 years. Also Mary Hardy was arguably the most wittiest female on TV.
Mary is no longer with us.
Umm. Graham Kennedy? If this is about TV Royalty then what about The King? (I kept looking at the list several times thinking that I must have somehow missed seeing his name and that it had to be there).
Story notes the list is about living personalities.
Wow !
So many omissions .
Susie Porter
Dan Wylie
Nadine Garner
William McInnes
Alex Dimitriades to name just a few…
Definitely.
Replacing empty vessel windbags such as Ray Martin and Mike Walsh with maybe Rob Sitch and all his mates from the D-Generation such as Gleisner/Kennedy/Tony Martin/Jane Kennedy/Molloy and Judith Lucy etc might bring some credibility to that list. They also forgot the entire crew from The Chaser Team – bit of an ommission there!
Denise Drysdale and Ernie Sigley are very notable exceptions.
Absolutely.
I love Kate Ritchie, but I’m surprised she made the list and Ray Meagher didn’t.
I’m shocked that Josh Thomas and Rebel Wilson aren’t on the list, seeing as they made the two best sitcoms in recent memory.
A couple that come to mind and in order of coming to mind are:
(Oh, plea forgive my spelling.)
Adam Hills – (Making a big name for himself now in the UK)
Shane Bourne
Virginia Gay – Someone give this lady her own talk show
Grant Bowler
Lisa Wilkinson
Melissa Doyle
Patti Newton
Margaret and David
Ernie Dingo
Jennifer Byrne
Benitta, George, John, (Pretty much anyone who has been on Play School. Before they “fixed” it. Yes, I include Big Ted and Little Ted in this section.)
Shane Jacobson
Gina Reilly
Jane Turner
Glen Robbins
Peter Rosethorn
Brian Henderson
Gretel Kellein
Carrie Bickmore
I could go on, but I will stop
BTW You left out the I in Georgie Parker, unless I don’t know of a George Parker
Thanks, “i” is now added.
