Vale: Diana Douglas

US actress Diana Douglas, mother of Michael Douglas and first wife of Kirk Douglas, has died aged 92.

She died of cancer in a retirement home on Friday.

She met Kirk Douglas at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, where they both studied acting. They divorced in 1951 after about eight years.

She appeared in dozens of films and TV shows.

TV credits included ER, The West Wing, The Waltons, The Streets of San Francisco, Days of Our Lives, Dynasty.

Films included Planes, Trains and Automobiles, It Runs in the Family, The Indian Fighter, The Star Chamber, Cold Heaven and several others stretching back to her first film Keeper Of The Flame.
