Former Prisoner star Maggie Kirkpatrick has been found guilty of two counts of indecent assault and one charge of gross indecency with a person under 16.

Melbourne Magistrates Court was told Kirkpatrick met a 14-year-old fan in 1984 while the teenager was being treated in a psychiatric hospital for substance abuse and a personality disorder.

Kirkpatrick, now 74, invited the then-teenager to her home, and shared a meal, before the actress sexually assaulted the girl in a bedroom.

Kirkpatrick had pleaded not guilty to the three charges and denied the allegations.

In a recorded police interview shown in court, Kirkpatrick said she had taken the girl home for dinner but did not abuse her.

The court heard earlier that Kirkpatrick was known for her honesty and integrity and that the victim had been an “obsessive” Prisoner fan.

She will be assessed for a Community Corrections Order and is due to return to court tomorrow. She did not speak to waiting media.

  1. craig bennet appearing on studio 10 this morning defending his friend on a charge that has been upheld by our court system was a bad move. some things you just keep to yourself. but its craig bennet. he cant keep anything to himself.

  2. Ironic because in the final episode of Prisoner her character is found guilty on theft charges and is led into Wentworth with the other inmates yelling and chanting her name.

  3. I would have thought that was obvious. It’s not the first time a network has pulled a show for the same reasons. For the record, I hope Foxtel do not pull it, nor do I believe the courts findings. As revealed in court, there are holes in the complainants story.

  4. Where there is no forensic evidence it always comes down to she said/she said in cases like this, and which lawyer/party convinces the magistrate. 30 years is a long time to wait before complaining about anything. No one else coming forward, unlike Harris, Hughes, Cosby etc?

  5. All complaints of abuse must be taken seriously but I’m very much struggling to accept this one. I’m ready to believe in Maggie.

  6. She shouldn’t get any leniency whatsoever. I find it disgusting someone would do such a thing to a 14 year old girl suffering from a psychiatric illness. The fact that she got away with this for over 30 years she deserves to be receive the very maximum sentence.

      1. Because that is what they do if it is a male star.

Seen any Hey Dad, Cosby or Rolf Harris repeats/shows recently?

        1. Ah, I was thinking that Aussie was referring to the reboot. Temporarily forgot that it’s called “Wentworth”.
