Seven delays The Muppets

Seven has a change of heart over its furry US friends.

Earlier last month Seven announced The Muppets would be screening “soon” but there was no mention of the show in its Summer highlights, released earlier this week.

A Seven spokesperson has now advised TV Tonight, “The premiere was postponed a little while after we sent this.”

No new date has been locked in.

In the US the show recently lost one of its two showrunners amid reports they didn’t see eye-to-eye on the creative direction of the show.

The series premiered in the US in September but will soon wrap for a midseason hiatus and returning with six episodes.

    1. Not really when you consider that it premiered to a 2.8 versus NCIS’s 2.4 but has lost 57% of that audience since, so plenty of people sampled the pilot but have dropped off, to make it look worse its lead-out, Fresh off the Boat, regularly does better than the Muppets against the same program.

I think this is the right call from 7, if the 6 episode relaunch is more family friendly they could potentially pretend the first 10 didn’t exist and launch it in a family friendly timeslot, rather than turn-off any possible family audience with the early episodes.

  1. This is what happens when you mess around with the original….
It was a kids show…with subtle undertones for grownups….
Somebody sure got lost along the way…

  2. Not surprising about the change of creative direction. Disney own the Muppets bought it from Jim Henson some years ago now, Disney seem to stuff up shows they buy just look at Power Rangers. I think the jury is out about whether it will be successful on 7.

    1. I’m guessing you mean Disney bought the Muppets from the Jim Henson “Company”? Jim Henson the person had passed away many years before the sale.
I don’t think you can say Disney stuff up all the shows they buy. Power Rangers isn’t a great example…. It was never any good in the first place.

      1. I beg to differ Power Rangers was great in the begining, but the quality and storylines and writing got worse gradually, Saban sold it to Disney in 2001 and then Disney made it even worse they completely stuffed up the writing and storytelling. The show became too safe.

  3. I’ve seen a few episodes of this, and it’s a bit of a mess unfortunately. I can’t really put a finger on why, but it just doesn’t really work, which is a shame, there was a lot of hype and love for the Muppets leading up to this.
