Seven stars to skip Logies

Sunrise and Morning Show faces won't be gracing the Red Carpet this year, as Seven's enthusiasm for the Logies wanes.

Channel Seven stars including David Koch, Sam Armytage, Larry Emdur, Kylie Gillies, Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta and Sally Obermeder will be giving the Logie Awards a wide berth next month despite Sunrise being nominated for an award.

Fairfax reports Seven was advised it could not do an outside broadcast the next morning. It leaves Edwina Bartholomew as entertainment presenter to cover the night.

But Seven has some history in a rumoured lack of interest in what it deems to be a Nine event, including having talent arrive at the last minute to skip Nine’s Red Carpet coverage and dumping plans for post-Logies parties.

Some years Seven has been unimpressed with its gong haul when its shows lead the ratings race. That’s despite TV Week giving Home and Away preferred cover status streets ahead of any other show.

This year there were no major Seven faces at the nominations event and the network is said to be unimpressed with the Gold Logie line-up, which failed to include a Seven face.

Seven has also thrown its weight behind the AACTA Awards which, along with Foxtel, it deems to better represent the industry as a whole.

One can hardly blame Sunrise for a lack of interest in the Red Carpet this year.

It will be hosted by Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson and Sylvia Jeffreys.

  1. This is Seven being smug and self-important and doing what they do every year, except taking it up a notch and not simply boycotting the red carpet. The fact it is reported every year is promotion in and of itself and another way they market and promote themselves and their “stars”.

TV Week has always ensured that there are at least 2 Home & Away stars and 1 other Seven star in the Most Popular Actor / Actress categories every year. This is the first year in God knows how many that only 1 H&A star is in each of those categories (but they still ensure it happens!) most likely due to they being aware that people know that H&A has plummetted in the ratings.

The fact TV Week continue to promote the hell out of Home and Away and every other piece of Seven output is a separate frustrating matter and one they should seriously look at, considering the reports of their declining…

  2. This is unfortunate news. The Logies are supposed to be the one night where all networks put aside their differences and let their hair down. Shouldn’t be all of this carry on happening.

  3. How can they not be given a spot to do an outside broadcast? There is plenty of space along the river and at crown. Doesn’t make sense and I don’t blame them for not showing up. I mean they wouldn’t be able to fly into Sydney that night because of the curfew.

But isn’t the logies on may 8th? Because won’t they be in Fiji then with there special mothers day trip. So them not having a public space may not be an issue. So may 8 they won’t even be in the country.

  4. Unless I am mistaken….TV Week and Nine TV…all fall under the Bauer group….which is world wide….and has massive publishing…TV…radio etc ….So of course the Logies are going to be commercial and all about them…..which I feel is why the Logies lack credibility…
I am not suggesting any rigging….but they will naturally heavily promote their products…
and really…..Logies and Nine are just tiny cogs in their huge wheel….
The old days are long gone…I personally have not watched the Logies for a lot of years.

      1. Oh?!?..ok…so how come Nine gets to do the TV Week Logies all the time…*confused*
        Just Googled…according to a Sept.2012 press release from Nine….
NEC and ACP will continue to work closely together in a number of areas including go to market strategies under the NEC operated “Powered” cross platform unit.

        1. Rusty memory on a long weekend.

Essentially when they sold ACP to Bauer they made cosy statements about working closely together, which would have meant sales more than editorial.

Not sure they ever meant indefinitely.

  5. Traditionally I thought 9 were pretty fair & balanced with their red carpet coverage, but the last few years have been a total farce of self promotion. I often wonder how many people roll their eyes when they recieve their Logies invitation. I’m all for the AACTAS rising to the top. So much more professional, polished and adaptable.

Can this please be the year that 9 end their ‘congratulations to us’ promos at the start of every ad break. Who are they trying to win over? One year House husbands won an award, Julia made a great speech and i thought to myself I might give the show a chance, then 60 seconds later that promo aired, and I promised myself to stay well away from ever watching it.

    1. Have you not seen the “congratulation promos” on other channels? They all do it.

The Logies are a marketing event that the network has paid to be apart of.
Just like the Australian Open Tennis or AFL on Seven or the BBL on Ten or the Rugby League on Nine. They are full of self promotion…. The Aus Open is one of the worst.

  6. Bit of petulance i think. Surprising that they give up the biggest local piss up of the year! They think they’re being Spike Lee and The Smith’s boycotting the Oscars. Better Homes won the logie how many years in a row? Home & Away most popular drama way too many times. Lisa McCune, Ray Meagher, John Wood, Packed to the Rafters, Rebecca Gibney, Hugh Sheridan all multiple wins. 7’s had a good time at the awards for decades.

  7. Seven don’t campaign for their program or stars like the other networks do, so they ca hardly complain when they get fewer nominations then they like. It looks a bit petty of Seven to just not show up, whether they are in the right or not.

  8. It really needs to revert to being an event that is hosted by different networks each year, like it used to be 20+ years ago. I don’t think seven can blame anyone other than the public for not having a Gold logie nominee though.

  9. They’re not the only ones who are lacking interest. Apparently the Logies are going to be ‘Live and Dangerous’ according to a Nine promo, whatever that means.
