Airdate: The Last Resort

Nine’s next reality series The Last Resort begins next week, twice-weekly in Tuesday and Wednesday night timeslots.

The series, created and produced internally by Nine, marks a rare “paper format” series as opposed to a local adaptation of a tested brand.

The series relocates five troubled couples to a Fijian resort with two psychologists and a series of “challenges” designed to rekindle relationships.

Nine’s Head of Content, Production and Development, Adrian Swift, said, “This series offers real hope and inspiration, demonstrating how Australian couples can work together to rekindle the love in their relationships. It’s a completely original format that will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, sure to keep you hooked.”

In this groundbreaking new Australian series, the couples will be sent to an island retreat where they will undertake a series of relationship tasks and challenges in a fight to save their love. Can The Last Resort save these couples?

Psychologist Sandy Rea and relationship coach Michael Myerscough will work closely with the couples, offering them guidance and support to help reignite the passion in their relationships.

As they confront issues of infidelity, trust and intimacy, their deepest secrets will be revealed.

At the end of one month, the couples must decide if they will exchange rings and stay together forever.

With family life, homes and long-term relationships on the line, who will fall in love all over again? And which relationships won’t survive?

The Five Couples:
· Lucy (38) and Carl (37) from Sydney, NSW – He had an affair
· Sharday (27) and Josh (25) from the Gold Coast, QLD – Separated parents
· Lisa (37) and Dan (35) from Brisbane, QLD – Blended family
· Jodie (34) and Stu (39) from the Gold Coast, QLD – Sexless marriage
· Sarah (25) and Keelan (24) from Canberra, ACT – High school sweethearts

7:30pm Tuesday May 9 and Wednesday May 10 on Nine.

Did the clean sheet of paper have Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds, Ex on The Beach, Wife Swap, Naked Dating, Jersey Shore & Geordie Shore, Married at First Sight, Saving Couples, Marriage Boot Camp or Temptation Island all crossed out on the back of that sheet of paper?

That’s an awfully early slot for such a show. Certainly not kid friendly. House Rules will get a pick up out of this show and MC will be cooking with gas.
It doesn’t really appear to be much of an original format, more a mash up of Temptation Island and Seven Year Switch — what’s the thing with taking troubled couples to tropical islands anyway ? I’m sure the same social experimentation could take place on the Gold Coast – where it appears most of the couples in these shows live anyway.

  3. Given the plethora of relationship shows to start the year off I can’t see this doing well to be honest. I thought Nine may have held it until the end of the year after seeing the ratings for Seven Year Switch.

  4. seems a bit like Temptation Island to me, except they’re married/partnered. Over all these relationship shows. You either have Building, Cooking or relationship reality shows.
