Roseanne is returning to US television with original cast members set to return nearly 20 years after they departed.
Eight episodes, shot as a multicam comedy, have been announced by ABC network, to debut sometime ‘midseason.’
Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman and Lecy Goranson are all set to return.
That’s despite John Goodman’s character of Dan being killed off and the entire final season including a shark-jumping lottery win, explained as Roseanne‘s “Dream.”
Sarah Chalke, who played the role of Becky after Goranson, will also return, but in a different role. Johnny Galeki is rumoured to be making an appearance.
ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement, “The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant — and hilarious — today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne.”
News of the show’s revival follows recent comebacks for the Gilmore Girls, Will and Grace, Twin Peaks and Full House.
Roseanne ran from 1988-97, drawing nearly 17 million viewers for its final episode.

Really looking forward to this….but I’ll bet if she continues with the working class humour making fun of the rampant PC culture in America today such as left wing snowflakes etc etc etc., it might be pulled like Tim Allen’s excellent program “Last Man Standing”……personally I hope she does big time….
Loved the show growing up but in recent years have grown to dislike Roseanne Barr and her flip-flopping political views and sometimes racist comments and tweets, let’s just hope she doesn’t bring the racism into the reboot. because the original show was about pushing the boundaries and diversity. hopefully, we have an appearance by Martin Mull
Even though I am more of a fan of Will and Grace, this reboot intrigues me more, I think they will have much more material and depth to play with than the Will and Grace reboot (which i am also looking forward to)
I think we will find out they won’t even mention season 9!
I don’t know if you allow links David, but there’s some cool pics of the cast together today launching the revival here…

When it was at it’s best, it was some of the best comedy TV going around. I’m looking forward to it.
They’ll probably just overlook the final episode narration by Roseanne, and that’ll have to include part about Dan’s death which wasn’t a dream. I wonder how they’ll explain Beckys husband Mark not being around, as the actor died in the early 2000’s.
This will be awesome, the last season of Roseanne was not as enjoyable in my opinion, but no doubt with the full cast back it has alot of promise!
