Battlestar Galactica cast reunite

Cast reflect on a reboot that addressed a post 9 / 11 world to wide acclaim.

The cast of the Battlestar Galactica reboot reunited at the ATX Television festival in Austin.

Joining showrunner Ronald D. Moore were Mary McDonnell, Edward James Olmos, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, James Callis and Michael Trucco.

Moore’s re-imaging of Battlestar ran for four seasons from 2004-2009 to wide acclaim.

When asked about what he thought the show would look like in the current political context, he said:

“We did Battlestar in a very specific moment of time, there was a marriage of what was going on in the world and the inherent story of the apocalyptic attack, and it was very resonant because it was a post 9/11 piece.”

With that said, “yes, we would take advantage of the current political situation and talk about the world and how it’s changed,” Moore remarked, although the vision for the show wasn’t so clear.

“It’s hard to imagine doing it today, you’d have to start from a blank page and decide what of the original story is still relevant and what would we have to say if we’re going to do it all over again.”

But Mary McDonnell said, “We’re in a time where the powers at be are trying to create as much difference between us as their pocket book will allow… We’re unfortunately living on the edge at the moment. Perhaps we can stop dividing each other and see each other as other because there is no difference. That’s one of the things I love most about what Ron did.”

  1. There is a chance for another spin off if the original producers of the show want to, the final episode pretty much explained the origin of the human race on planet Earth so there’s plenty of creative writing opportunity left.
    Netflix maybe?.

  2. Absolutely one of my favourite shows of all time. Been meaning to re-binge my blu-ray boxset (complete with cylon figure) for a while. Frakking awesome.
