Season 3 of True Detective is proceeding, according to reports today.
HBO confirmed late Thursday that the next instalment will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks (where a current Netflix series with Jason Bateman and Laura Linney is already entrenched). A mystery will deepen over decades and play out in three separate time periods.
Previously announced Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) will star as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.
Creator Nic Pizzolatto will be the sole writer of the series, for all but episode 4 which he co-wrote with David Milch (Deadwood).
“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala” and executive producer Jeremy Saulnier, said Pizzolatto in a statement. “I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”
Fingers crossed it can regain the glory of Season 1 with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, after Season 2 failed to excite.

Good choice of actor for season 3, lets hope that the producers stick to good story telling and resurrect he dark undercurrent of season 1.
The structure of the 3rd season sounds very like the mini series ‘Chiefs’ from the 1980s.
So bloody excited about this. Can’t wait. Thanks for the update David.
