Why Carols by Candlelight didn’t top week’s ratings

Ratings: From 1.28m viewers to 689,000? Here's why.

You would think with an audience of 1.28m viewers that Carols by Candlelight would have topped the week’s ratings.

Instead its final figure is around half that size: 689,000 viewers.

Why? Because it was replayed on Christmas Day and was not recoded as a separate title, so the final figure is the average of both broadcasts. A sleepy summer lesson learned as the year kicks off….

Still, Nine can take solace in the fact it comfortably won the week, with The Ashes Fourth Test S3 officially the week’s top ranking title at 939,000 viewers.

TEN won the 16-39 demo (and beat Seven for all 3) while Nine scored 18-49 and 25-54.

The Big Bash League continues to deliver for TEN, including ONE topping the multichannels.

  1. Carols was about 80% religious carols this year. Most of the songs about snow and reindeer were in the Hi5 bit and the medley at the end. I thought I was at a Donald Trump rally for most of it.

    1. That is a weird by Channel 9 to do that.I bet they won’t do that again…Agree laurie New Years Eve has always been ordinary when it comes to Live music over the years and ABC delivered…Be interesting to see what they come up with next time…Certainly Charlie was sending out a hint lol
