Airdate: Young Sheldon. Returning: The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang universe returns to Nine next week with new episodes and its hit spin-off.

Updated: Young Sheldon debuts at 7:30pm Monday March 26. The pilot debuted in the US in November and has been rating well. CBS gave this a full 22 episodes and renewed it for a second season.

In the premiere episode we meet nine-year-old Sheldon and his family for the first time. It isn’t easy growing up in East Texas when you are a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics – and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him.

His father, George, struggles to find his way as a high school football coach and as a father to Sheldon, who he just does not understand. Sheldon’s mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he doesn’t fit in. Georgie, Sheldon’s older brother, does his best in high school but finds it tough to be cool when he takes the same classes with his younger brother. Finally, there’s Missy, Sheldon’s twin sister, who sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but also remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth.

Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage as Sheldon, Lance Barber as father George, Zoe Perry as mother Mary, Montana Jordan, as Georgie, the older brother, and Raegen Revord, Sheldon’s twin sister Missy.

It will be followed at 8pm by The Big Bang Theory S11E9 “The Geology Methodology” which also screened in the US in November.

Sheldon and Bert collaborate on a research project, despite Sheldon’s embarrassment. Meanwhile, Penny and Bernadette coach Raj on how to navigate his relationship with Ruchi.
