Eric Bana to make US series debut

It's been 16 years since Bana had a series role and that was in Australia.

Eric Bana will make his US TV series debut in Dirty John, an NBCU-produced anthology that has a 2 season order.

He will star as “Dirty” John Meehan, a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Connie Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies. The series is based on a podcast by LA Times reporter Chris Goffard and how the romance spiralled into secrets, deception, denial and, ultimately, survival.

It will be written by Alexandra Cunningham (Chance, Desperate Housewives), who will co-executive produce.

Season two will feature an entirely new stand-alone story that is yet to be determined (although the title probably limits their choices!).

Whilst Bana has starred in US features including Black Hawk Down, Troy and Munich his last series role was ABC Australia’s short-lived soap Something in the Air in 2000.

  1. Oh wow. The podcast on Dirty John was excellent. Really gripping and fascinating. Even though I know the story, this will be a definite must see for me.
