Samantha Bee has apologised after an insult directed at Ivanka Trump last week, saying “I crossed the line. I regret it and I do apologise for that.
She added that she “hated that it distracted from more important issues.”
She apologised last week after widespread condemnation, while US network TBS also followed her statement up with an apology of its own.
“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologising for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” TBS tweeted. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”
But the incident may have come at a cost, with management planning to work with the show, which has previously afforded Bee creative control.

A growing number of people believe that there is 50 shades of disrespect. No it either disrespectful or not. Both Bee and Barr have apologized yet in the Barr case the bar (no pun intended) was raised by the ABC. Rightfully so. In fairness Bee should have faced the same fate from her network and not a slight tap on the hand for being a naughty girl.
Bee hasn’t spent the last 20-odd years being a complete loose-cannon d*** in public; a huge public-perception bomb waiting to explode. There’s your difference.
Don’t need to invent any fictional “shades of disrepect” to explain it…

Roseanne Barr has proven the double standard. If Bee was held to the same standard the show would be cancelled and any repeats pulled from air. No wonder there is a growing amount of people sick of the hypocrisy of some.

Calling people vile names is different than using racial slurs to describe them. Bye Roseanne, please take several seats!
Also from a business perspective it was more involved. It appears to have been the final straw for ABC, plus other shows / staff were preparing to take a stand against their own network.
