A new Queensland-made series from producer Jonathan M. Shiff is quietly having a premiere on ELEVEN.

While Children’s TV is under threat from commercial networks seeking to abandon their commitments ELEVEN is quietly launching The Bureau of Magical Things, a new Live action series from the prolific Jonathan M. Shiff Productions.

The Queensland-made series follows the adventures of Kyra, a regular teenage girl who acquires magical powers when caught in a clash between an elf and a fairy. Kyra discovers a secret world of magic exists all around her. When she uncovers a threat to both the magical and human worlds, she must try to unite fairies, elves and humans to save them all.

The cast features Kimie Tsukakoshi (The Family Law) as Kyra, plus siblings Elizabeth and Julian Cullen, playing elf brother and sister on screen, Mia Milnes, Rainbow Wedell and Jamie Carter.

Adult cast includes Nicholas Bell, Christopher Sommers, Steve Nation and Melanie Zanetti.

The 20 part series commissioned by TEN and German Public Broadcaster, ZDF is supported by principal investment from Screen Australia, in association with Screen Queensland with support from Film Victoria and the City of Gold Coast Film Attraction Program.

  1. What a waste to be dumping this on Eleven on a late Sunday morning (I thought The Loop occupied that timeslot).

Australia’s children’s shows tend to sell quite well overseas, so this is probably just an investment for TEN as opposed to something that they expect to succeed locally (like how Neighbours is still around mainly due to international, particularly U.K. viewership).
