SBS picks up Chasing the Moon

The Eagle is landing on SBS in 2019 with a 6 part doco marking Apollo 11's 50th anniversary.

SBS has picked up a 6 part documentary series Chasing the Moon to commemorate next year’s 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

The six-hour series, directed by  Robert Stone, it tells the behind-the-scenes story of NASA’s mission to put a man on the moon in 1969.

Through interviews with many of the key players in the historic events, including Apollo 11 astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Mike Collins and fellow astronauts Frank Borman and Bill Anders, and access to previously overlooked and lost archival material, the documentary looks to reveal the scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses, and personal drama behind the space race.

Chasing the Moon is an unmatched achievement that focuses on the science, history, and most importantly the intimate human aspect of one of the most inspiring and tumultuous periods in modern history, the space race,” said Tom Koch, vice president of PBS International.

Apollo 11 touched down on July 20, 1969.

  1. I’m not sure if this will be any different from the numerous Moon Landing docos that’ve been made over the decades, I’ve the feeling it’d showing the same old footage and have the same people telling the same stories they’ve told countless times before.
