SKY News sacks Ross Cameron

SKY News boss moves on Outsiders presenter after racist comments this week.

SKY News has sacked Outsiders presenter Ross Cameron (pictured left) following offensive comments made on air on Tuesday.

The former politician made the remarks while defending China against allegations it was attempting to infiltrate Australia’s intelligence network.

“And I am just saying to you the Chinese civilisation is the oldest continuing civilisation in the world, OK, it is not going anywhere,” he said.

“1.4 billion people – it has got about a sixth of the world’s population. All of them are studying English.

“If you go to the Disneyland in Shanghai on any typical morning of the week you’ll see 20,000 black haired, slanty-eyed, yellow skinned Chinese, desperate to get into Disneyland,” he said.

“I have today advised Ross Cameron that his contract with SKY News has been terminated,” SKY News boss Paul Whittaker said this afternoon.

“SKY News is committed to robust discussion and debate however this language is totally unacceptable and has no place on any of our platforms, nor in modern Australian society.

“All content from the episode dated 30 October has been removed from all SKY News platforms.

“We apologise for any hurt or offence caused by the remarks made by Ross Cameron on the program.”

It follows ongoing headlines with Outsiders, which previously suspended a producer after a news strap reiterated comments by Senator David Leyonhjelm regarding Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, and in April fired another co-presenter, Mark Latham.

Last year Cameron came under fire after making homophobic comments at a fundraising dinner for the Q Society at Manly RSL.

Under news boss Angelos Frangopoulos the show was given an upgrade to a regular primetime slot at the expnse of Heads Up with Janine Perret , but newly-installed boss Paul Whittaker has fired Cameron given the comments were indefensible.

  1. Just the Drum and Get up?

Others Not aligned with the LNP?

Bolt was on the ABC before he left for Ch10

Centrists are not Lefties. Hence what’s wrong with the Conservative party and 75% of the Media.

  2. The Outsiders is/was a train wreck of a program. It was so bad that it was hard to turn it off if accidentally clicking on to Sky News when it was on. Rarely have there been a more stilted uncomfortable duo than on this program. It doesn’t really matter what side of politics they are on, Ross and Rowan made for an absolutely awful program that was excrutiating to watch. Much, much better at 11 pm was Janine Perritt’s Headlines program.

  3. Gees be a few way in front of him that should be gone.We all know it’s a totally biased station to the Coaltion, but when it is so unfair towards anyone who has a different opinion, then it becomes a joke of a station.

    1. Interesting point of view, but I would say that the evening Sky News show had been shooting a fair bit of ‘unfriendly fire’ while Mr Turnbull was PM post Tony Abbott, Mr Shorten has had a dream run to take up residence at the Lodge while the LNP not only had to fend off vociferous critical commentators from the left wing but also from the far right as well, from critics who would like to see an Australian version of Mr Trump in office.

      1. Who are the Critical Left Wing commentators?

Sky News is now a Far-Right Wing Lunatic Network. Of course Sky Didn’t like Turnbull. Malcolm Turnbull is Centre Right politician, sadly that’s no longer tolerated in the Liberal Party and across the conservative media.

Once Shorten and Labor win office they must address the Far-Right lunatics creeping in Australia’s Media and political system.

        1. Please check out the ABC’s The Drum, members from Get Up and also others not necessarily ideologically aligned with the LNP make regular or occasional appearances. It’s doubtful any of these guests would be seen on Andrew Bolts Sky News show anymore than Mr Bolt would be seen on The Drum, but who knows.
