Former Footy Show host Sam Newman has been videoed ripping a skateboard from teens in a scuffle near his Docklands apartment.
In a video taken by one of the boys, the group can be heard asking Newman: “Dude, are you police? Are you authorised to take the law into your own hands? Tell me that.”
Newman told Seven News he was refusing to apologise and that he had footage that showed him calmly approaching the boys before asking them to move on.
In 2007 Newman was caught in another argument with a group skating in a similar spot at Docklands.

I am not and have never been a fan of Sam Newman….Having said that…he was right….skateboards..roller skates…bikes…scooters etc are banned from pedestrian areas for a very good reason…safety.
I couldn’t agree more, Maev….Sydney.
I don’t think that Sam Newman did this for publicity, good or bad. To be fair, 7 News Melbourne tonight did revisit the story and interviewed other local residents who pretty much felt the same as Newman, and were glad he took a stand.
At the Sea Wall in Vancouver Canada, there is a specific (and wide) path for cyclists and skateboarders which is clearly signposted; yet some young skateboarders ignored this and nearly bowled me over on the pedestrian only path not all that long ago. I conveyed my displeasure to them. They just don’t care. Melbourne’s Southbank is no better, yet cyclists etc are, incredibly. allowed there.
Like Maev, I am no fan of Sam Newman, but good on him for challenging those ignorant [place your own adjective here].
Good on ya Sam.
Just another example of the media editing the story to suit themselves. That’s why I not watch the TV news anymore
Nothing wrong with this!
Skaters weren’t allowed to skate there and Sam spoke up and told them off!
Well done!
A good old Channel Seven beat up for no other reason than Sam Newman appears on the rival network. A week after the MAGA schoolboys’ protest was misrepresented by mainstream media because only one side of the story was ripped from social media, Seven ignores the lesson and indulges in this garbage. Morons.
I’ve been watching the MAGA schoolboys misrepresentation in the media and thought the media should have learned their lesson by now.
Apparently skateboarding is banned in this part of the Docklands and Sam was just pointing out his frustration with the skateboarders. And good on him I say. There are always two sides to every story. Let’s hear both of them before making judgement.
Everybody knows that public places are not for young people to have fun. They are for Sam Newman to hijack society’s downtrodden and humiliate them on television.
