Northern Pictures are seeking participants for a new ABC documentary series Love on the Spectrum.
The series features people who are on the autism spectrum and is also looking for people open to dating someone on the spectrum.
A casting notice seeks “Anyone (all genders) who lives in NSW, QLD and Victoria who is interested in dating. All ages over 18 welcomed.”
Producers note filming will be very low key, and involve very minimal commitment, possibly as little as one afternoon.

I would kindly like to point out that some of the facts here are wrong. Applications have been open since at least December last year and it is casting country-wide, not just the eastern states. I know because I have applied for the show, live in Perth and have been told they are accepting people right around Australia. Just want to make sure the facts are correct so other autistics outside of QLD, NSW and VIC don’t feel wrongly left out.
With respect it is correct according to the link. If casting plans have changed since then it isn’t my concern.
It will need to be very delicately handled with a lot of care and consideration for the participants. I do fear that even with the best intentions this could be seen as a little exploitative and do real emotional harm to the people who appear.
Sounds like a similar format to UK’s ‘The Undateables’ which is a really nice show and does not exploit the participants, in a similar manner to Employable Me.
